Hi lads i'm now realising im going to be needing one of these any advice on wich one. There seems to be loads out there & the price please

Do you mean a proxy server for masking online activities or a VPN for connecting to a network inside a business or something like that?

If the latter you can set it up through Windows normally. If the former (which I assume) then I'll send you the link to the guys I use when I get home. Costs $36/year.

Well I had to look up what this abbreviation stands for, thought it might be something to do with visible panties or something. After looking it up, not sure I'm wrong either.

As opposed to the invisible kind?

Visible Panties Network is definitely what I'm going to call it next time someone asks me what it means though :D

As Rayvin suggests, the terms have become a bit misused.

Businesses use VPNs to use the Internet to be able to login in to an internal network remotely with associated encryption and controls.

Proxy servers use the concept of me connecting to a server in Sweden or wherever so I can use the pirate bay without interference. I suppose the term could be used as the login to the remote server is probably via a VPN but it's the subsequent IP masking that's the main aim rather than the login.

Clearer Renton?

I was thinking about getting a proxy after it being recommended after installing Covenant (i.e. newer version of Exodus). Is it really necessary / likely I'll get a letter about copyright infringement etc?

I used to use a vpn/proxy I got with giganews but they suspended my account for downloading copyrighted material via BT. This would have been TV and films as they had no problem with the terabytes of porn I downloaded from newsgroups. After a couple of suspensions I dropped the entire account. This suggests they were monitoring the actual use of the proxy which defeats the point.

I'm not sure regarding Kodi as I only stream rather than download - not sure if they care.

I only stream too. Anyway, cheers. It's fairly cheap but, like I say, I'm not convinced it's needed.

I use my proxy for streaming - too risky not too now IMO. All the tech savvy guys I know switched to proxies some time ago.

Cheers. I think I'll follow suit.
