Can they split the incident? Like the ref saw Deeney hold Allen, but as he didn't see the gouging he could be punished for that separately?

Aye, I suppose it depends on what’s in the referee’s report and he obviously hasn’t seen the full incident if he’s only given a yellow.

They can probably do a lot of things, they won't though.

 

The whole idea of the ref seeing it so they "can't" retoractively act on it is their own rule for the sake of not bothering to do anything.
