trooper 940
Norwich manager saying he expects Jacob Murphy in his group in Germany next week looks like Charnley's really driving this one through
ewerk 30602
That's to be expected. They wouldn't have left him out of the squad yesterday unless there was a reasonable prospect of the transfer going through. They know Benitez wants him and Charnley is under pressure to deliver so they hold all the cards.
trooper 940
Well they're certainly dragging it out. If its going to happen get on with it & move on to the next one we need another 3 or 4 yet Edited July 16, 2017 by trooper
ewerk 30602
There's nothing to stop us negotiating for three or four players at the same time. It isn't like this transfer is holding up the rest of them.

TheGingerQuiff 2412
Tough position we're in. Until other clubs have made their moves there'll be a reluctancy to let players leave/go out on loan. Player power is reduced at the minute until wages realign with the new tv deal (we're going to be paying cannon fodder 100k+ when that happens). I've accepted that we'll likely do a lot of late business

ewerk 30602
Aye, my definition of a panic buy is to pay well over the odds because the clock is ticking.

Anorthernsoul 1221
Seydou Doumbia was a panic buy as we'd fucked the signing of a striker right up.

TheGingerQuiff 2412
I'm with ewerk, a panic buy involves blowing a load of cash. Cheap last-minute options are a sign of a plan B that didn't involve bidding twice a player's value, or 60x in Spurs case
Anorthernsoul 1221
You're missing the point though, leaving signings to the end of the window usually means we've missed out on the main targets and are scraping the barrel getting any old SHITE in. Which even you and Etwerp will admit that does not bode well for our season.

There's a tipping point though, sometimes it's better to punt on the cheap plan b than paying way over the odds for your main targets if the money simply isn't there. Thats how you end up like Sunderland. Our problem at the minute is knowing we need so much. At the prices quoted you're putting a lot of your eggs into one basket without a crystal ball you don't know what will suddenly become available in a couple of weeks time. I can see Everton blowing the Lukaku money and one or two of their half decent players might become available
Anorthernsoul 1221
Time will tell, for me the Premier League is a joke now money wise but they need to spend if we are to survive. They've promised the money is there but nothing so far suggests Rafa has the full backing he needs. I'm not convinced that squad will be good enough to avoid relegation as it is. trooper 940
The reason people are getting jittery is because Rafa said he wanted the new signings early & even gave up his holidays to sort things out. The no show of these "-signings" means Rafa having to put on a brave face allthough inside he must be thoroughly pissed off
trooper 940
Tbh if Ashley wanted to show Rafa he had any ambition for the club instead of saying Rafa "can have every penny the club earns through sales etc" he could have said "what ever you make from sales etc i'll match it & we'll give it a good go. It would be a mere drop in the ocean for him. Instead he resorts to type running the club on a shoestring.

At the time of Ashley's interview it felt as though he was just saying what the fans wanted to hear and in his mind he was boosting season ticket sales, hopefully that doesn't prove to be the case.
