Really don't think up front is that big a concern for us. We're not going to be taking the division by storm, it makes more sense to shore up the back, play to Rafa's strengths (defensive/counter attack) and aim to be 'difficult to beat' for the first season back. Counter attacking should win us a few games we'd otherwise be written off for.

Sounds like we're already downgrading our expectations. :(

Will you lot be happy to start the season with Mitro and Gayle?

Hard to say, if the rest of our team has been improved significantly, then yeah.

Even then, Mitrovic and Gayle may well surprise people and be a capable Premier League strike force.

Well we know their PL records. 1/4 and 1/6.

Albeit Gayle didn't play many games as a No.9 under Pardew at Palace.

I don't think either has enough about them. Gayle is slightly more dangerous and is probably a better player now. But generally speaking PL defences are more organised now bar the 2/3 stragglers at the bottom.

if we sign a quality winger, number 10 and a left back and if we sell colback, then maybe.

But if we sign a decent #10 a decent winger and continue to improve our defence, won't they be good enough?

About as much chance as this guy's chances with Olive.

We won't be signing anything of the kind. We're scrabbling around for loans ffs!

I can see us getting another midfielder because it looks like they are trying for that. But the 5 players we needed to go straight into what is essentially a Championship side...I can't see it now. Benny wanted the big deals done early. Think the budget always was 30 million ish.

Till the window shuts we can hold out some hope that Benny will talk Ashley round I suppose.

You think we won't make another permanent signing in this window?

Think we'll get one more goodish player...From the looks of things a midfielder of some description.

We haven't signed any Tier 1 players and I don't think we will.

But I have gone into Ashleymindgames defence mode.

He'll get £100m including wages as long as he can shift some.

Can't see it.

Ashley playbook is to see what happens and then fix in Jan if we're near the bottom. Our only hope is that Benny will threaten to walk and Fatley will come to his senses.

I believe Rafa will get every penny the club generates and not a penny more (or less).

Sunderland banked ~£85m in TV money last season, didn't they?

Ok, sorry, not followed the thread.

Would that be with Arma and Perez?  Assuming Murphy is gone?

Gayle will start in the preferred 4231. Rest will depend on how Benny sees the pre-season going.

As Gloom was saying and I agree we need a N0.10. They did try to sign that Samiras who can play there afaik.

We don't get the TV money till the end of the season afaik. iirc there are some incremental payments but not sure how that is divvied out. I read somewhere we get some payments monthly and the rest at the end of the season. On another site it said it all comes at the end of the season. I've been trying to find out the last couple of days how and when the PL money drops.
