Mitrovic looked handy too but we can't accommodate him with our personnel and pigeon chest is no different either. Aye, the Irish pundits put together a reel of Shaqiri and referred to his defensive work rate as borderline disgraceful; there was nothing borderline about it. They were balanced about and said with his attacking talent he'd be at a top club if he wasn't such a cunt.
acrossthepond 877
If Mitro's work rate isn't good enough for Rafa, Shaqiri's certainly isn't. That's before you add on what a shit-stirring piece of work he is (he was trying to provoke the Serbs last night by making an Albanian eagle at them with his hands after he scored the winner.) But then, all that aside, if the price was right I'd take him. Shelvey apart, quality on the ball is in short supply in this side and he chips in with a fair few goals from midfield. Howay 12496
Tbh I’d love us to get him, he’s got a lot of quality when on the ball and we’ve seen the work rate Rafa can pull out of players who have traditionally lacked in that area. He is a little cunt, but he’s the sort of cunt where you’d appreciate it if he was playing for your team imo. With all that said aren’t Liverpool in for him? If that’s the case there’s fuck all chance he’d take Ashley’s offer of a tenner a week. Edited June 23, 2018 by Howay

Xhaka and Shaqiri are both ethnic Albanians and in the Balkans fucking everything is about ethnicity. The gesture was 100% intended to stir shit. Here is some history: Incidents as a result of the game[edit] Incidents followed the game outside of Belgrade, not only in Serbia, but also in other countries: In Serbia[edit] In Serbia, after the match, several bakeries and snack bars owned by ethnic Albanians were set on fire in Sombor and Stara Pazova, and a bomb was used in one case.[46] In Montenegro[edit] The Albanian embassy in Podgorica, Montenegro, was pelted with stones, which broke windows, and a note of protest was sent to the Ambassador of Montenegro in Tirana in regards.[47] Albanians in Montenegro celebrated in Ulcinj, Plav and Tuzi. Incidents of brawls among Montenegrin Albanians near Podgorica were recorded and four students had checked in the hospital as a result of bruises because of fights among them.[48] In southern Albania[edit] Within Albania, as soon as the match and the subsequent events in the stadium were over, a group of 100 Albanian nationalists carrying flags and nationalist banners attacked local ethnic Greeks, attacked houses, smashed car windows in the Greek-inhabited village of Derviçan, south of Gjirokastër. At the same time the same group launched profanities against local ethnic Greeks and slogans against Serbia and Greece. Their activity was stopped after police intervention.[49][50] The incident triggered diplomatic intervention from Greece with the Greek foreign ministry sending a démarche to the foreign ministry of Albania and demanded the trial of those responsible for the attacks.[51] The Albanian foreign minister stated that "quick and efficient reaction of the state police, identified the responsible people".[49] In Austria[edit] After the match, about 50 Albanians threw bottles at a Serbian coffeehouse in Vienna. Several cars, including police cars, were damaged.[52]

beatty 24
Agree about Shaqiri. He's the sort who wouldn't get stuck in when times were tough. He'll be a squad player in a 4th/5th place team.

zerosum 234
I’m hoping the deathly silence on transfer news is a prelude to a crazy week where we sign 3 players. Shame I just got deja vu when typing this.
Kid Dynamite 7025
Aye, all the talk is of players leaving ATM. If we've got £30mil ish off Ashley. £8mil Mbemba to Porto £12mil Merino to Sociedad £20mil+ Mitro to Fulham £15mil Gayle to Stoke That's £85mil to replace them

Once you factor in those things Ashley’s formula would have us with about £4M of the £12M quoted to spend to replace him at break even. Of course his little formula won’t take into account the fact we wouldn’t be paying the outgoing players wages anymore...
Anorthernsoul 1221
I can see Merino going onto big things in the future, disappointing to see us lose him to a release clause.
trooper 940
I think the penny must have dropped with Merino he's realised Rafa's a crackling manager. But the owner has no ambition for the club & 10th place in the PL is probably as good as its going to get here.
PaddockLad 17245
Merino is a Basque, linked with Bilbao last season and Sociedad this season.....it could equally be driven by some desire to play in his homeland by the player rather than any desire to sell him from Rafa or Ashley... David Kelly 1244
Merino seems to want to go because he's not been getting a game. And you can't really blame him for that, but whilst I don't think you could argue Shelvey and Diame deserved to stay in the team in the second half of the season, I do wonder if there was a bit more too it with Merino not even getting on the bench for quite a few games. adios 717
I thought it was that he was suffering from a back injury for a lot of the season. Real-y hope he stays for another season anyway.
