I do agree one or two signings in the £30m range are necessary with the shortcomings in the budget made up for by loans.

Totally agree with this.

@Park Life, there must be a tier 0 by your reckoning too?

There are more numbers between 0 and 1 than there are whole numbers

  Infinite in fact.

Need to hear about Parky's full ratings system.

God I hope we sign someone soon, just to stop this outpouring of total horseshit.

  It's the summer, man.  It's either this or talk about shitting out kids.

It's an intricate weighting system of goals ratio and shots on target. This is intermixed with various personal prejudices.

The two players from Ligue 1 - Moune (now at Huddersfield) and Moukanjo Benjamin are the ones I would have gone after.

9 and 11 on this list.

There is literally no point on false economies in the PL. You get relegated. You have to spend what people around you are spending or you get left behind. It's even more ridiculous when you have a world class manager.

I'm not taking your scouting system seriously ever again. Not after the Sissoko debacle.

Think we'll get one more goodish player...From the looks of things a midfielder of some description.

We haven't signed any Tier 1 players and I don't think we will.

But I have gone into Ashleymindgames defence mode.

Isn't Lejeune a Tier 1 player? He's certainly getting a lot of praise from neutral journalists who've watched him a lot last season?

Don't know anything about him. Benny said he has potential and will be good for competition for places. If Benny thinks he's good/will be good I'm happy to go with that.

Was about to argue that surely that must calm your nerves a little, but I just remembered that my Mam sent some chocolate caramel squares down to me for my birthday, because I'm still her baby boy, and now I'm far too distracted to prattle on as is my usual wont.

This is the key for me; as long as Rafa's around I have faith things will work out.  Both because of his pedigree and what it will indicate if he stays.

If he walks, we're back in McClaren territory and I'll be more disillusioned than when Keegan II walked.

He's better than ours. 1/2 in Ligue 1 is proof of that. It's not a muppet league. Think he's 22/23 iirc. So he misses the exact criteria but the sheer no of goals cancels that out.

Thauvin got more goals from the wing than Mounie got up front in a similar amount of games. The French league is just as hit and miss as the Dutch league imo and his record was about 1 in 2.5 games which isn't much off Riviere's 1 in 3 for Monaco before we signed him.

I see no reason whatsoever (short of an injury ridden season) that Gayle couldn't match the sort of numbers (or better) Deeney, Rondon, Vokes, and a couple of others got last season. He managed 7 in only 8 starts (15 sub apps) his first season at Palace, 5 in 11 starts (14 sub apps) second season, and 3 in 8 starts (8 sub apps) in his final season (which was under Pards), he's also no doubt improved since then and has a bit more confidence about him rather than being in and out of the team.

I'm not opposed to us signing a striker but our focus should be elsewhere as imo striker is one of the harder positions for us to improve on (our starter anyway). We'd also still be lacking in creativity which is the main problem I think, I'd rather we spent big on a player for that number 10 role, a central midfielder, a left winger, a left back, and perhaps another CB.

It's a shame the Lewis Holtby rumours seemed to be bollocks as I would have liked a player like that in behind the striker.

I agree, Rafa probably needs to do most of his business in Spain.

I wouldn't be too worried about a spine of spineless foreigners when Rafa concentrates so much on character.

Chill-out you bed-wetting wankers.

                        Krul-Elliot-Darlow

  Yedlin-Mbemba-Lascells-Clarke-Dummett-Haidara-Lejuene

     Ritchie-Colback-Hayden-Shelvey-Diame-DeJong-Atsu

                        Mitrovic-Gayle-Perez

Fear not, without new signings, a lot of luck, these lads might just keep us out of the bottom 3

Seeing as Martin Hardy has just written a book with Rafa and would appear to be the journo who is closest to him, is this a fairly literal account of Rafas feelings?...

Is he? Seen loads of him?

He has a career total of 73 games, he scored 11 in 32 in ligue 2 and 14 in 37 in ligue 1 last season. Not sure either of those is one of your "top leagues".
