Park Life 71
I hadn't realised that S Carolina had 'open carry'. Goons with M16's should be nowhere near demonstrations. When the ex-Mrs P did her pro bono work there on death row she came back shell shocked. Probably the most racist state in America.

The Fish 10866
Just now, Rayvin said: My position is about finding a solution aside from virtue signalling and grandstanding. It's a lost cause tbf, so I may as well just fall into line. What concerns me, given how much time I've spent listening to and reading about these 'far right' and 'far left' people in an online setting, is that we're now starting to see a physical manifestation of what is ultimately quite a significant movement online. There are a lot of people online for whom it would only take a small push to send them into Nazism generally. A lot. They might not be out on the streets, but they'll vote that way when it matters. There's a hearts and minds battle to be fought here that no one gives a flying fuck about. And given how frequently we've been blindsided politically by 'not giving a flying fuck about' such people, I am wary. Please note, I'm not talking about a hearts and minds battle for Nazis. I'm talking about it for the people they're starting to pull over. 'Unite the Right' is a chilling thing to call this march, against this backdrop. I think a big problem is that the social media arm of the far right, or the alt-right or whatever they're calling themselves now, is that it appears so many hold these opinions as an online hobby. It's a game where the intent isn't to spread the word, it's to see if they can offend someone, see if they can get a reaction from someone. Hence the labels and catchphrases like SJW, Snowflake, Virtue Signalling, and so on. They're simple, easily repeated and memetic. Seeing such a movement online the real fascists are emboldened and it's them that take to the streets wearing kevlar, webbing and brandishing automatic rifles. In this, you're right, there needs to be a carrot to lure the kids away from being dicks online, but I think there also needs to be a big fucking stick for the actual fascists who Sieg Heil their way down main streets expecting the common people to march beside them because a tweet they put out calling some media person a Cuck got shared and liked a thousand times. A fascist who is convinced that shooting up a Mosque will get him hero status and not a lifetime behind bars. Just like we need to drag disenfranchised young men away from radicalisation into a death cult, we need to drag disenfranchised young men away from radicalisation into a murder cult. But how do you do that while you've got the entire fucking left wing calling everyone you've just noted, a Nazi. Identity politics strikes again. You're either a left winger with good intentions, or you're a nazi. That's literally the level of dialogue going on now in these groups in the US. Victim complexes and everything else follow naturally. I don't really care what we do with the real nazis tbh, but we're certainly losing out to the Alt Right on this evidence. This is a problem. Was this guy, who rammed his car into protesters, a life long Nazi? Or was he a recently converted Alt Righter? We'll find out I guess, but his mum sounded fucking horrified which leads me to think that he's a recent convert... radicalised online. Hence hearts and minds. The Friday night fascists online are kids, they haven't a clue as to the repercussions of their online actions. They see arseholes like this Baked Alaska (who I only heard about this weekend) as some kind of hilarious hero sticking it to the man. But how do you separate them from the real fascists? Get him on tv and debate with him? That only fuels his self aggrandising campaign. Bring criminal charges against him? Win and you will make him a martyr, lose and it legitimises him. Same with a civil suit. I say, just punch him in his face. Do it, gif it, make him look weak and small and a pussy and a cuck and all those thing the children throw around until they lose interest in him. Sorted Trouble is Rayvin, if the Alt-right are saying fascist things, live-streaming themselves at fascist rallies, and defending actual Nazis, their quack sounds an awful lot like a big ol' fascist duck. If their Country had a proper leader, a genuine statesman, I'd have faith in a hearts and minds approach. But Trump is incapable of accomplishing such things and is in fact inactively encouraging them. Should he be impeached or forced to resign, or whatever, whoever inherits his mess has to make domestic policy a priority, imo.

This country of theirs is so easily swayed by soundbites I honestly think if a moronic Nascar driver ran for office with a decent speech writing team he could sweep many of the red states. If a real life heavyweight Republican had run for office instead of the clown's parade we saw, their country wouldn't be half as divided as it is. Mad people or not. He's incompetent but he is what the nutjobs wanted. Assuming he doesn't trigger nuclear armageddon, my position will be that we lucked out with Trump. We could have had someone who courted these sort of sentiments, but who was actually effective. Now we'll get a massive left wing campaign to oust him in 4 years, that should settle the issue for another generation.

Having said that, he received a lot of criticism in the comments under the video about that debate, and he was still man enough to put it up despite having lost. It's not all an echo chamber. Another case in point is his Corbyn stuff - he told people to vote Tory and received a rather furious backlash. 4 years might be a long time, but given that these sentiments weren't going to go away under Clinton, and that the West is in an existential crisis anyway (Neoliberalism, for those of you keep score in Renton's bingo) I honestly believe we would have been faced with something far worse in 4 years time had she won.
