Rayvin 5223
I agree. That's the frustrating thing where the government are not just nasty cunts but they're incompetent with it. Yet still the opposition fail to capitalise. There is an undoubted media bias against the opposition but part of that is down to Corbyn's decision not to play their game (or perhaps that's being too kind and it's just an inabiltity to do so). Abbott is quite simply out of her depth in the heat of battle and personifies the wider issue Labour have with getting their message across. Parky's also right about the lack of a message / identity too though. I do agree with that piece someone posted on here recently saying now is the time more than ever not to abandon Labour, given the alternative. That was Monbiot, and that remains true. I think we should be encouraged by the poll swing. Granted, it's still miles off, but it's better than heading the other way. And it points to a lower risk of a wipeout. It also might suggest (and this is just me knocking ideas around) that the attacks on Corbyn have reached some degree of saturation in the previous two years. Maybe they aren't going in anymore? The Trump Effect, as it were.

Rayvin 5223
Shame the chap didn't post the rest of the interview. Hard to tell if anyone has been destroyed based on 59 seconds. Parky, I've seen loads of videos like that all over the right wing YT commentariat, and they're always highly selective about the bits they show you. That said, it's a poorly worded campaign slogan. It presumably refers to the abolishment of zero hours contracts more than eliminating unemployment. I suspect the intended meaning is that they will eliminate shit jobs, rather than unemployment. Most people in the UK who aren't politicized unlike most of the posters on here have little idea what the Labour Party really stands for. Is its economic policy interventionist? Will they keep Trident? For or against Brexit? On key issues of the day all I read is carefully worded flim-flam and contradictions by the day. He's making a speech on Thu when everything should be clear apparently. Edited May 3, 2017 by Park Life
Rayvin 5223
Don't disagree there, but if they're to stand a chance at all, it's by putting forward attractive policies. The Tories will try to tear them apart, but if people are delusional enough to vote for Brexit thinking it will improve their living standards, will they pay any attention to the Tories on this? If they do, it points to the fact that the low IQ right wing (as opposed to the elite right) are a lost cause. The Tory party whatever the press say are currently all over the place and mortally wounded by Brexit. Shire muggle Tories and the wets are in full rebellion against what is being revealed day by day to be the nasty and psychotic wing of the party who have chanced into ascendancy. Meenzer 15552
Either Labour will get a shock win or they will get annihilated, Corbyn will have no option but to walk and Labour can set about rebuilding itself for the next election Mark my words *ct I'm starting to think Corbyn won't walk even if they end up with <150 seats. Alex 35100
The daft thing is what we really need is a leader who is strong enough to compromise in negotiations (portrayed as weakness by the Mail, Sun, et al) rather than a one too weak to go against the press (portrayed as 'strong', of course). Alex 35100
I'm starting to think Corbyn won't walk even if they end up with <150 seats. I think he's been on the cusp of going for a while. Wouldn't be surprised if the Tories thought along the same lines and thought a shit showing in the local elections and another few months of infighting would see him off, hence the snap election being called. Although, who the fuck knows what's going on any more?
Meenzer 15552
I have no reason to believe he understands or wants to understand why he was elected in the first place - not as the great Corbyn, but because of precisely what he isn't - so I don't buy that he has anywhere near enough self-awareness to grasp what a local election massacre mght actually mean in the wider sense. I suppose we'll soon find out...

I suppose we'll soon find out...I read a story that he'd commissioned an extensive private poll to measure his chances (before the election call). If true it would indicate a hint of realism - of course whether he'd still be too stubborn to take notice is another matter. On the election call itself I think there's a lot in what Sturgeon said about the election expenses thing as well as political opportunism. I've come to the point where Corbyn aside, I think the mood of the country is so fucked up and the negotiations are going to be so toxic, I don't mind the cunts presiding over the whole shit show. I suppose we'll soon find out... He's talked a lot about being anti-establishment. Which is certainly why I voted for him. And coupled with the largely anti-establishment considered Brexit, I think that he's measured this about right. What he hasn't catered for is the fact that the narratives he needed to pick up are already being used by the Brexiters. Rayvin 5223
9 out of 10 students have now registered to vote, and 55% of them will vote Labour. Tories a distant second at 18%. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/may/04/voter-registration-soars-students-backing-labour-corbyn-general-election Nice to see, albeit not hugely relevant in the broader sense of the election.
