Yikes, busy on here today...

Don't worry about Trump, the media are tightening the net on him now. I agree that control of the narrative is the most important thing, I just don't think he's doing it. The media are. It's the Russian stuff that they'll get him on in the end.

Be interesting to see who the media replace him with when he's ousted.

If the 'media' are so powerful, how come he won?

You're in some kind of dreamland. He'll be there for 8 years.

He had a better narrative. He doesn't now. Although he does need to cling on to the one that won him the election if he's going to survive.

 So does the media pick the president or not then?

I concede that we're only getting the establishment views over here and it's hard to gauge how his popular support is reacting, but much of this isn't looking good. He does look incompetent Parky. Whether he intends to or not, he seems hugely underqualified to do this. Not because he isn't a career politician, but because he's just dim.

I considered a Trump figure to be inevitable in the long run and hoped that it would galvanize real change in response. However, it looks like it'll fall flat. The establishment will point to Trump and tell us 'look, you've had your fun now but that guy was a fucking headcase. Go back to letting is decide who rules you. Go back to sleep'

Oh ffs. Isn't it obvious by now the media are not the kingmaker any more and probably never were. What is this incessant need to find deeper meanings or conspiracies to explain phenomena that are actually very easily explainable through empirical analysis and good old fashioned deductive reasoning?

The establishment.

You are in serious danger of falling down the Parky rabbit hole.

The media won't oust him, the NSA will, with their (legal) wiretaps like the one that got Flynn.

The media will continue to act as stenographers rather than do any actual investigative journalism.

If you bought into the theory Russia or hackers swung the election, is it better to have the dark state subverting democracy in America?

He's going to announce his tax cuts next week supposedly - the people Chez mentioned who are well off and voted for him won't give a flying fuck how mental he is once the dollars drop.

Yes. Trump needs to go, even if it requires exceptional intervention from non transparent sources.

I don't think it's a conspiracy. I think it's an ideological struggle. And I'm satisfied with my reasoning even if you guys aren't. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I just look at trends, what people are saying, how things are reported vis-a-vis reality, and across multiple different news platforms. My conclusions come from all that. Surely, even if you disagree and reach different conclusions, you can respect that I'm not raving with a tin foil hat.

Interesting. What do you think will happen after they oust him?

As HF says it will be the deep state and not the media that will try and dislodge him. It will be interesting to see what they have laid out for this eventuality. My guess is soon they will play a new card...A new enemy, probably China or Iran. Then the deep state will have to back off or they will look un-patriotic.

If you think the media collectively choose who the president will be then you're heading into that territory. The media is disparate with different outlets promoting different beliefs and philosophies. Their net effect is negligible. As HF says, they scribe events, rather than shape them. Well the good outlets, anyway. The bad ones offer propaganda which invariably preach to the converted.

Ahh, those new enemies of China and Iran.

I don't think they'll come together and agree on the next president, I think they'll naturally align behind the one that best supports their ideologies. And yes, their ideologies are predominantly all neoliberal.

They'll stand back and 'let us choose' if the choices are between two heavily status quo people. If we get another Sanders, they'll go for the other option. That's all I'm saying.

Dangerous though, isn't it? And not to bang on about narratives but they absolutely need to have one, a really strong one, before they oust him. The media is laying the groundwork for that if nothing else.
