Just read the wiki page for Howay's dad, which is a perfect description of "downward spiral".

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gregory_(footballer)

Gregory's next spell in management was with Derby County (January 2002 – March 2003). When he took charge at Derby they were bottom of the Premiership, but after winning both of his first two games at the helm it looked as though he might be able to save them from relegation. Unfortunately, seven defeats from their final eight fixtures saw Derby slip out of the Premiership after six years. The club's financial problems meant that Gregory hadn't purchased any players during the 2002–03 season, and their subsequent form in Division One was disappointing.

He was sacked in March 2003 for alleged misconduct but later won £1 million in compensation for unfair dismissal. Due to the ongoing lawsuit, Gregory was unable to apply for another managerial position for some time, so he spent most of the next three years working as a television pundit.

On 20 September 2006 he was unveiled as manager of Queens Park Rangers. He replaced Gary Waddock, who had stepped down following a poor succession of results that had left the club bottom of the Football League Championship.[2] This appointment caused a schism among QPR fans, some of whom saw Gregory's friendship with controversial chairman Gianni Paladini as a conflict of interest. After a decent start with successive victories over Hull City and Southampton, Rangers form dipped before winning three on the bounce (including a victory at (then) league leaders Cardiff City). Unfortunately, results did not continue to improve, and relegation looked a distinct possibility for Gregory's men. However, following a fine late season run, QPR beat Cardiff 1–0 at Loftus Road on 21 April 2007 to secure their Championship status for another year. Gregory was sacked as QPR manager on 1 October 2007, after another string of poor performances.[3]

On 8 December 2009, Gregory was appointed the manager of Israeli club Maccabi Ahi Nazareth.[4] He led them to relegation.

On 18 May 2010 Gregory signed a 3-year contract with Israeli Premier League Club F.C. Ashdod. He resigned from Ashdod on 18 April 2011, with the club facing the possibility of relegation.[5]

On 13 June 2011, Gregory was appointed the manager of Kazakh club FC Kairat from Almaty, Kazakhstan.[6] Kairat survived relegation at the end of the 2011 season to the second tier of Kazakhstan football.

Gregory had his contract as manager of FC Kairat terminated in December 2011, and in April 2012 was paid $120,000 in compensation.[7][8]

On 3 December 2013 Gregory was named as the manager of Crawley Town, replacing previous manager Richie Barker.[9]

On 27 December 2014 after being Crawley Town manager for just over a year Gregory stepped down as manager due to health problems; on the same day Crawley Town named former Welsh international and former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Dean Saunders as interim manager.

Afternoon Geordies,

Now last night's reserve match is out the way icon_lmao.gif we can concentrate on the more important matter of Saturday's league game and the events before and after.

Any Mags in need of good ale and wood fired pizza before/after our game are warmly invited to Preston's finest pub, The Moorbrook which is now in its third year since being saved from becoming flats.

With seven cask pumps and five keg taps The Moorbrook on North Road (PR1 1NR) serves an array of traditional and modern ales from all over the UK and beyond including their own pale ale which is brewed specially by Blackjack brewery. For those not into real/craft ales there is a house belgium pilsner, Guinness, Thatchers Gold and Stella 4 as well as a number of German bottled beers. Also on offer are a wide range of wines and spirits including a number of specialist whiskys, gins and rums. A newly added outside bar will serve the house pale ale, pilsner and Thatchers.

The current lineup includes beers from Sirencraft, Blackjack, Crafty Devil, Pig & Porter and Alchemy.

For those in need of food there are wood fired pizzas freshly made before your eyes and ready in minutes. Prices range from £4-6 or £7 with a pint of cask ale/lager. Crisps, nuts and scratchings are also available.

The Moorbrook is approximately 15-20 minutes walk from Preston railway station or a £5/6 taxi ride. It is then a 10 minute walk to Deepdale so a good halfway point. For those in a car/minibus/coach there is a huge car park to the rear courtesy of a recently closed B&Q which is £1 for 12 hours.

For any further information please see Twitter (@themoorbrook) or Facebook (The Moorbrook) or give Rich a call on 01772 823320.

See you on Saturday!

Where's the nearest brothel?

Popped in the Moorbrook last night. Outside bar is up and running and will serve Blackjack Snake Eyes, Moorbrook Pale & Pilsner, Thatcher's Gold and Stella 4. Inside Sirencraft's Tidal Wave has come on keg tap whilst on cask there are beers from Edinbrew, Badseed, White Rose, Ghost and Pig & Porter breweries.

The place usually opens at 12pm but you'll be able to get in from half 11 giving you a chance for a spoons' pint at The Greyfriar on the way if you so wish.

Aye I'm getting the train down on Saturday.  Those pizza's do look nice so I might see if the lads fancy it.  Sounds like a bit of a trek from the station though so they might be hard to convince.

Also there's none of us like craft beers so that might be an issue.

Aye no beards amongst us either. Tbh we'll probably be smashed by the time we get there so a wetherspoons is the most likely bet. The Adelphi is apparently where our supporters are being told to go.

I'd make a point of not going to it then. 'Here! You! Drink there!' 'Aye OK then, Captain.'

Lol, it's thankfully not really a 'hipster' joint due to the number of regulars who frequented the place when it was a traditional Thwaites pub serving mild and best returning when it reopened. It's just a great pub with a great atmosphere doing things a bit different and a lot better than the rest of those in Preston. There's Moorbrook Pilsner, Edlestoff, Paulanher, Stella and Thatchers for the non-bearded amongst you  :ok:

I can walk from the station to the Moorbrook in 15mins and if you're heading to The Adelphi, a wanky student chain pub, you're only five minutes from the MB.

Those wanting to split the journey into two and keep it 'aletastic' so to speak may want also consider The Guild Ale House  on Lancaster Road in the City Centre (PR1 1DD). This is a new(ish) micropub serving 5 cask and 4 keg beers with a shed load of bottled and canned craft, Belgium and German beers in the fridge. It is a 5/6 minute walk from the railway station and the landlord Gary tries his best to keep prices down with all cask ales £3 or less.
