I’m not so sure about this. I don’t know the context behind it but if there’s a Russian vessel stranded at sea then why not help them? They aren’t necessarily Putin supporters.

It’s like this talk of barring Russian athletes. I don’t see that as particularly fair. Ban their national teams but preventing individual Russian drivers from motor racing or not allowing Paralympic competitors from Russia to compete under a neutral flag seems to be going a bit too far.

I've considered both sides of it and can't up my mind where I sit with it tbh.

At face value it does seem unbelievably harsh but they're clearly using it as a tactic aiming to drive a greater movement against him. The issue is it might have the opposite effect and encourage them to favour him.

I think it's unfair unless there's a demonstrable logic that doing this will put more pressure on the Russian government somehow. Ukraine is suffering losses of life, the careers of a few Russian athletes being hindered is insignificant compared to that. If it's out of spite then I think it's uncalled for.

I think it's fine. You have to make the people of Russia see what impact their President's action is having. And it has to have an impact across the board.

People like sport, they like seeing their country succeed in sport. So banning the Russians from participating sends the message that your country doesn't get to enjoy sport or sporting success while you're occupying another country.

They're a country run on propaganda. This cuts through that, and also removes an opportunity for them to build propaganda on the back of sporting success.

TLDR: They can all suck it.

Ban them from everything fun tbh. Fuck them.

If Putin’s people have to suffer economically that’s fine, that’s a price they have to pay. They should have every privilege removed we can realistically remove.

It’s not on lads. It’s just not on.

I mean just the message it sends if you don't do it. Cities in the Ukraine under siege, people with no comms, no power, no heat, and bombs dropping all night. Friends and family members dead or sent to the front line.

And we're like aye but we should let this lot still play in the World Cup/Olympics cos it would interfere with the personal ambitions of their athletes.

It's absurd. Fuck them off. They'll only cheat if we let them in anyway.

Aye that’s it like. At the end of the day the idea is to put pressure on their dictator. If that leads to an uprising and a general puts a bullet in Vlads head then brilliant.

But for now we have to impose everything we can. They even kicked Russian cats out of some international best looking cat competition

I feel sorry for the paralympions but in the absence of any military option whatsoever we need to exert maximum force by other means*. The UK government is a fuckin disgrace in this regard, bare faced lies that  theyre taking the toughest stance and that they did it first.

* I note that this doesn't include buying Russian gas. Fritz and Ronnie Ravioli feeling the chill

It's absolutely pathetic listening to Truss today "we did this first....we did this the most". They're fucking juveniles, not to mention liars.

And yet when asked this morning why it's taking us longer to sanction oligarchs than anyone else, whichever minister it was doing the press round replies "it's not a competition!".

This bullshit about needing to build a legal case btw, and it'll take weeks and months. Doesn't seem to be such a big concern for the US and EU to get the legals right first.

We can see exactly what's going on with Abramovich putting Chelsea up for sale. They're being given time to get their cash out of this country, probably being tipped the wink in advance.

They're now trying to argue that "a lot of Russians think what Putin is doing is wrong, so maybe we shouldn't just go after the oligarchs en masse."

In it up to their fucking eyeballs.

This is possibly why they’re doing the square root of fuck all to help refugees, well if the refugee is a HGV driver* or a fruit picker they’re fine.

*obviously the majority of refugees are women/children so unlikely

This government are fucking scum, Russian boot licking scum.
