In one of the swimming events, the Australian gold medalist Mark Horton defeated his Chinese rival, Sun Yang (just). The Chinese guy sounds like he runs gamesmanship from the Stevie Taylor book of being a total prat, and was apparently splashing at Horton prior to the race to try and psych him out. Anyway it didn't work, and Horton was asked afterwards what he thought about it. He called the Chinese guy a drugs cheat and said he didn't care about him. Apparently Sun has failed a drugs test previously for medication he took while managing a heart condition.

 

Anyway...! China has gone fucking nuts about this, and has demanded apologies from Horton, Australia, anyone who'll listen. Many of the Chinese internet users are threatening him with violence and stating that this proves that Australia hates China. It's also apparently somehow racist.

 

I've watched China do this kind of shit for years, and it's hugely enjoyable. The victim complex they've instilled into their populace lashes out with a vengeance for stuff like this.

British swimming coach has been complaining this morning that Britain were robbed of 6 medals (4th places) through the participation of former cheats. Sun Yang is one of the cheats he was referring to.

 

It must be sickening when you come 4th and there's someone in the top 3 that's been up to no good in the past.

He won it in London 2012 but he was 16th fastest in qualifying so wasn't even close to making the final. He did win the 200m though to go with his 400m silver.

Did you see the stuff in the Guardian about swimmer qualifying times? Some of the national federations submitted qualifying times for their swimmers from the world championships, but the official records of that event show that they never actually achieved those times.

 

And some submitted qualifying times for their swimmers and it turns out they weren't even at the event where they supposedly achieved the time.

 

It's no wonder there's drug cheats getting away with competing when FINA isn't even doing basic due diligence in qualifying times.

Fucking class. I'm chuffed he beat Gatlin mind as I've always had very little time for that bloke.
