Ayatollah Hermione 13886
The cynic in me suggests that they’re going to go back on their word on a lot of promises and end up pissing him off and seeing him leave.

Andrew 4772
Xabi Alonso has announced that he wants to go into management. Now lets get Rafa to have him in as a coach, future manager lined up and ready.
Rayvin 5223
That Luke Edwards stuff doesn't sound great. PR move it is then. Still though, I guess the club is setting their cards on the table. I guess it depends on whether or not Rafa will actually believe he can get what he wants at the end of the day. Dealing with Ashley looks like a lot of stress for very little benefit though.
Andrew 4772
Sounds like a load of horse shit "hey, remember when we didn't keep our promises to you two months or so ago? how would you like to extend your contract?"

rogerbarton 24
The bottom line is that Ashley wants Rafa there because having a top manager is the best way of fulfilling his blueprint of f*ck all investment but staying in the PL. I'd love to know what clauses Rafa has regards transfers in his current contract. The positive would be if he managed to get more control in a renewed deal. It sounds like the stumbling block was the lawyer who came in and stalled a lot of the deals.

Yep. The only problem is a manager who can do that won't stick around. Is Ashley really too fucking stupid to realise this?

trooper 940
I think Rafa will probably see out his contract & then tell Ashley thanks but no thanks regarding an extension to his contract. We all know he's done Rafa over these last 2 windows. Ashley doesnt share the same vision for the club as Rafa does that's why it'll never work, because of Ashley. I think the damage done is irrepairable regarding Ashley & Rafa unless an outrageous offer comes Rafa's way i fully expect him to walk away at the end of the season if not sooner. adios 717
All we can hope for is someone comparatively reasonable like Kim Jong Un to take over before Rafa takes the hump.

Rayvin 5223
Aye but a new contract would at least mean that we could shake off all this stuff about him going elsewhere. What about Liverpool though? If Klopp goes to Bayern, could they go back in for Rafa?

If Ancelotti is available they might test the waters with him? Only way I see Benitez signing a new deal when there's time left on his is if Ashley's committed some serious funds for January. Kitman 2207
If I was Rafa, I'd leave unless Ashley sells the club. He needed a prolific striker and he got Joselu instead. Two fingers to you, Benitez!
