David Kelly 1260
Think he still had a good record at Bournemouth last season tbf. I don't think he's as good a player as Townsend mind but I doubt he'll be too high on the list of players that need replacing should we go up. OTF 7485
I'd prefer Ritchie over Townsend. Townsend isn't as fast as I first thought, he seems to only have one speed.

Kid Dynamite 7168
I'd still have him back like. Easily our best player at the end of last season
Alex 35568
Benitez certainly seemed to get a lot out of him.
Howay 12496
Benitez certainly seemed to get a lot out of him. He did aye, Townsend is a good player. He's seen as a one trick pony type but when your one thing is as devastating as his it's a pretty good thing to have in the side. They're hard to compare as they're very different players, I like Ritchie and I think he brings a good attitude to the team, he's also possibly more consistent than Townsend (hard to say mind as Benitez had him performing every week really but we'd need a longer run of games to see if that was a streak or a norm), but Townsend is probably more of a game changing type of player on his day. TheGingerQuiff 2412
Prefer the Scotsman. Didn't see Palace trying to rescue the cunt from Spurs reserves in January. Not sure how a player in his position was able to negotiate a release clause either mind.
Kid Dynamite 7168
He was an England player at big London club with lots of interest and we were fighting relegation. Not that hard to see
TheGingerQuiff 2412
He was an occasional England sub in the reserves for his club who's strength in his position has lead to them paying 30m for Sissoko to strengthen it. There was nobody else interested at the price being quoted and eyebrows were raised when we coughed up. There was an international tournament coming up that he needed first team football to be in contention for. We should have had the upper hand in contract negotiations. Alex 35568
We were a total basket case. I doubt his agent had much bother getting the clause inserted
Howay 12496
Imagine getting the opportunity to negotiate a deal with McClaren and Charnley, I'm surprised the clause was as high as it was.
jonasjuice 0
From his point of view he's got about 5 good years left. Maybe had it in his mind to play very well for palace and get another move in the summer to a top 6 type club while getting another pay increase and signing on fee to boot. Plus Rafa could walk at anytime if ashley does something daft.
Anorthernsoul 1221
Imagine getting the opportunity to negotiate a deal with McClaren and Charnley, I'm surprised the clause was as high as it was. I shuddered at the thought of those two useless cunts having a conversation about transfers, what a mess the club was in.

Dr Gloom 22142
Townsend could do a job at this level and if we go up, and could free Ritchie up to play as a number
PaddockLad 17643
Townsend could do a job at this level and if we go up, and could free Ritchie up to play as a number 10 Cheers for that Pards Am I right in saying Allardyce will only let Townsend go for his market value and not on loan? Is that the stumbling block ?...

Is that the stumbling block ?... It sounds like Allardyce wants the cash up front to spend on other players. Hence the loan to buy option not working for him. Leon 13
We don't need Townsend back for 13million. He's on the bench of a team stuggling against relegation and not getting a game. If Sam really needs cash then he'll be happy with 10m
