Brady plays on the other side though. But it might mean that they need the cash a bit more. Looks like their new US owners aren't going to put much money in themselves.

Aye but they'll have Brady, Schlupp, Puncheon, Zaha and Townsend for two places.  You would certainly think they'd want one of them off their wages.

Does Allardyce still do his inverted wingers? If so, Brady would be on the right, Zaha on the left. I still have fond memories of James Milner cutting in and sending a ball looping out of play

No idea how he gets a game at City.

But that's where they've played Townsend and part of the reason he's huffed and wants to leave. Not sure what they would do with Ritchie who has been our best player with Darlow, Gayle and Shelvey

massively overrated player, whoever it is he's playing for these days.

Said it before, but he's a true utility player who can do a job for a top half team in most positions (right back, all across the midfield, in the hole, maybe as a false nine?), but obviously not as good as a top-half specialist in any one position. He's often praised for carrying out the manager's instructions to a tee, and that must be valuable. The knowledge that if you've planned for Milner to be a right sided midfielder, then the left winger gets crocked and you've not got a substitute, or the system you started with isn't working so you need to shift to 3 in midfield, etc. You know he can perform at a high standard in whatever position you ask of him.

Also helps that he's a model professional and seems well respected by the other players too.

Perhaps he seems over-rated because he's been under-rated for a lot of his career and now people are praising him its seems over-the-top?

He's a good player - great engine, good shot on him, can play in several different positions (and do a decent job) and has a great attitude. He's an ordinary winger though.

Absolutely, also I think his understanding of the game means he could be a decent coach/manager in the future. Mind you some cracking players who read the game well have utterly failed at management, so what the fuck do I know?

Aye, I don't think he ever really had the pace to be a top winger. People always say he was a sprinter when he was younger to say he's quick, but I always thought he'd have to beat his man two or three times before he got his cross in for us (think he was one of them that really slowed down with the ball at his feet). Has a canny range of passing though which is what helped him as a CM.

I think Milner gets a rough ride off people because he's an ugly cunt from Yorkshire and looks like a cartoon football player from the 1950's. He's more athletic than he looks and as others have said he has a very professional attitude. I didn't think he was class when he was at Newcastle but it's worth remembering he was only 23 or something when he left and he has definitely improved due to his hard work and the coaching he has received. He also doesn't hide which is always a plus and will put in a shift wherever he is asked to play.
