Not really, 5/6€ a pint 3/4 for a bottle of moretti or peroni. Restaurant food isnt bad value though, nothing over 15€ for anything really, meat, fish, pasta etc

Alex 34948
Puglia looks class in general when I’ve seen it in numerous tv travel/cookery shows. I love Italy but I’ve not really been to the south, unless you count seeing it from a cruise ship.
Gemmill 44554
We've been to Umbria a couple of times and it's class. Stay at a class Airbnb owned by a Dutch couple in the absolute middle of nowhere. Definitely going back in the next couple of years.

Yeah, I had a week in Gualdo Tadino a few years back and thought Umbria was lush. Gualdo is just on the edge of the Apennine Mountains and not that touristy. Locals were friendly though but seemed to regard us as a bit of a curiosity . We had a couple of day trips to Assisi and Gubbio too.

There seems to be a lot of big stones standing about in fields, but dunno which are shitty tourist traps and which are the legitimate Asterix and Obelix ones. Spent the morning in Auray enjoying as many free samples as their market would give out. Lovely place. Despite finding shade, despite factor 30-ing everywhere is have stayed true to form and found myself entirely incinerated once more.
Holden McGroin 6549
Any recommendations for a lodge (etc) in Lake District for a family with a 4 and 8 year olds? Also, has to be classy. Like me.

I don’t have a clue really. It’ll be for 3-4 days. I’ve never been since a kid. Probably something quietish. I’m happy to drive to towns. I was dabbling with booking Whinefall Forest - center parcs but am leaning towards lodge/cottage with something to do close by.
Alex 34948
Just now, Holden McGroin said: I don’t have a clue really. It’ll be for 3-4 days. I’ve never been since a kid. Probably something quietish. I’m happy to drive to towns. I was dabbling with booking Whinefall Forest - center parcs but am leaning towards lodge/cottage with something to do close by. I’m not a fan of Centerparcs anyway tbh but Whinfell Forest isn’t even in the lakes and the scenery is nowt special. It lies between the lakes and the Pennines. I could recommend loads of places I’ve stayed but the trouble with specific houses, lodges, whatever is they can quickly go downhill of the owner doesn’t spruce them up at least once a year. Because they’ll often have people staying there 40+ weeks a year so will get trashed. Ambleside is a really nice town. If you want somewhere where you can stroll to the village pub but it’ll be quiet of an evening then you have options like Troutbeck (the Troutbeck near Windermere) or Langdale (Chapel Stile / Elterwater). Langdale has stunning scenery, is still easy to get to (about 20 mins from Ambleside) and the two places I mention (which are adjoining villages / hamlets) have a couple of good pubs, coffee shops, village store etc. There’s some great places round Coniston and Ullswater too. I can also recommend Eskdale. There’s some specialist booking sites like Wheelwrights but everybody seems to be on Booking.com now from B&Bs all the way up to luxury mansions. I would think about roughly where you want to stay and look on there tbh and go off recent reviews, proximity to pubs etc. You will pay a premium if it has to be in the school hols though
