I'm just not sure what constitutes proven really.

Like the finish article, at the top of his game, playing regularly for a good team? No chance of us signing them I'm afraid.

Personally I'm talking about someone who's played more than a couple of seasons in a decent league at a good standard. If you look at Gini he's done that without reaching his full potential (you would think). He was Dutch player of the year and I'm not talking about someone at that level but I bet there are numerous players in the 25 - 29 bracket who have done well for a number of years. Like you say, the morons that run what used to be our club won't change their blueprint so it's all pie in the sky anyway.

i would be happier with someone like townsend. he might not play in a position we desperately need filling, but he's got pace to burn and he can impact games plus he'll have something to prove ahead of the euros. if we got him, we could move sissoko or wijnaldum to a more central position.

Andros Townsend = Damien Duff.

a bit of experience of having played to a decent level in this division would be good, or to a particularly high level in a foreign league.

the thing that worries me about our current strategy in our current position is it'd based around young, foreign players, who are on the way up in their own leagues. they rarely have a lot of experience playing at a high level in their own country let alone over here where the pace of the game, culture, is completely different. i have no problem having a punt when you've got a well stocked squad and you're not in a relegation battle.

Was an FM beast a few years ago. Underwhelming and predictable

Aye, him and Obertan at Bordeaux

As I remember, Obertan was considered the better prospect...

£5mil too? Thauvin/Cabella were £12m+

This is part of the disapointment for me. I know you can't always judge a player from other players fees (Mangala cost Citeh over £30m and I'd take Mbember over him any day) but it is worrying that he's rated so much less than others who have been complete flops. FWIW I don't think Cabella cost more than £9m like.

Meh. This is pretty much all we can hope for really and pray he turns out to be decent. There's no way 'proven' premier league players would want to join us under this regime, even if we decided to go for them.

The club fucking up straight away by getting his date of birth wrong in his factfile. EDIT: Ah, they've corrected it now. Good. Thought we signed a 36 year old.

Not writing him off. It just doesn't massively inspire confidence, does it? Signing someone no fucker's heard of when we're crying out for some experienced players, preferably with leadership qualities, to help us out of the shit.

"The Next Henry" at one stage, except without the pace or ability to finish

then he played right wing, then left wing , then right, then striker and now cm  and can't get on for Senegal

5m on him is better than 12m on shelvey i guess, but aye pretty underwhelming and not exactly going change our squad

He doesn't start for Senegal? Does he at least get selected?! I mean I'm cheering for the guy, but sheeesh...

Like when Kevin Nolan got us out of it last time? For me, anything that unseats the midfield two and allows us to get more of a grip on games is fine by me.
