But surely if Europe decides it's just gonna spend all of the frozen Russian assets on weapons, they could wipe the floor with Russia.

Where do they get the weapons from? It's not like there's huge stockpiles lying around Europe. It will take time to manufacture them, unless they can purchase them from America.

i think he's gambling on the minerals deal giving trump and economic interest in the country and an incentive to not want to see it levelled by Russia. 

 

not much of a guarantee, but he's been backed into a corner. so much for europe's coalition of the willing

I don't think this has changed anything about what Europe now knows it has to do. It's just the timescales for that don't correlate to the timescales Zelensky is working to. 

 

If Zelensky ends up giving up territory to Putin and minerals to Trump, Ukraine has been completely shafted though, I know that.
