But we were assured that electing the anti-trans people would be good for women's rights. What went wrong?!

Women's rights will be fully protected (in the kitchen).

Too many thick gullible "it'll never happen" morons in existence.

It's really hard to believe that a man known for sex offences against women wouldn't have their best interests at heart. Impossible to predict pre election though so who can blame anyone for rolling the dice.

I've read recent stories that Musk is readying a bid for OpenAI and Trump is considering creating a PIF to purchase TokTok.

They also have Zuckerberg/Meta onside by the looks of it, which would leave the worlds biggest narcissist and sociopath influential over Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok and X and the future of AI.

If it wasn't so terrifying it would be impressive. It's like all your favourite dystopian novels rolled into one.

I mean if everything he's doing isn't a coup I don't know what is? All a foreign power had to do was get a yank and his billionaire friends to run for power, why didn't they think about it decades ago?

He's making a fucking mess of the place and withdrawing the US from all sorts of international agreements, but it doesn't feel like this ends in America being more powerful.

It feels like he's gonna fully fuck the place up by giving it a non-working government and infrastructure, whilst also alienating them internationally.

He'll feel super powerful for a bit, but once basic things start to fall over for both the rich and the poor, people are going to notice. If you've got that South African idiot mincing about lording it over everyone and making his "great jokes" while the country is falling apart, those jokes will somehow (!) become even less funny.

That's not how it works. People know when they're worse off. It's what did for the Tories here - you can tell people you're gonna make them better off, and get them to vote for you, but it all comes to a crashing halt when reality bites.

It required social media and the broligarchs. A synergy made in hell.

I am afraid that is exactly how propaganda works when it is not just about normal politics but foremost about ideology. This is why Farage is still making a living out of telling blatant lies. Or people in the eastern part of Germany voting for far right parties.

Farage isn't in power and has zero responsibility so can continue to lie without consequence.

Trump can't tell people things have never been better when they can't feed their kids.

You're wrong about Trump. When you have total control of the media, you can use it to blame and demonise sections of the population. I think you're being quite naïve if you don't think the fascist playbook doesn't play especially well in the digital age. Your kids are hungry? It's their fault. Meanwhile you subvert all elements of the state including the military and judiciary, steal people's data etc. We are well on the way there. I am constantly amazed how people can't see what is happening in plain sight.

I'd hope we have more protections in the UK. All depends on keeping Farage and his ilk out though. If they get in, its game over for us too.

After having seen how politics evolved over the last ten years I am very sceptical about the application of common sense among a large proportion of voters. Of course Farage isn’t in power but he is still able to promote xenophobia and persuade people about the benefits of winning back sovereignty. Conservatives were able to stay in power for quite some time despite things have been getting worse in the UK for quite some time. You do also have to keep in mind the huge differences in voting systems which enabled Labour to win a majority in the UK and has kept the AfD out of government so far in Germany.

The US is totally different and with the simple choice between red and blue it is far easier to make propaganda work especially when you basically are in control of major social media as well as influential TV stations.

Unless Trump is causing a catastrophic famine dome people being worse off financially won’t make up for their belief in things being worse under the control of a government controlled “communists”, gays, blacks et al.

I certainly won’t hold my breath in things and voting getting back to normal soon.

Blah blah, I'm naive, you're amazed how blind I am etc etc. The usual lecture whenever anyone says anything other than "it's the end of the world as we know it".

Funny like cos you agreed that it was impossible to tell people that they were better off than they were when it was the Tories. They demonised "others" as well but it becomes irrelevant when your life is demonstrably getting worse and the government is failing on the basics. But I'm supposed to believe that Trump is somehow different because he has more mechanisms to tell them. Don't agree.

We'll see though.
