Yep a much more sensible approach would he to spend the day worrying about a nuke landing on my forehead or a flood washing away my house. That's the way to live.

BTW, I don't think for a second you can either. It's not the point I'm making though. There is a reality, a truth, and you'll be affected by it whether you recognise it or not. Maybe you can block your mind to it, good for you. But one day it will come knocking at the door. Edit: take last night. I sensed things weren't good at midnight. Gave myself a media blackout for 7 hours. 7 am shit is more real than ever. And I couldn't even sleep in those 7 hours. Ayatollah Hermione 13909
I think we’d all worry if we got terminal cancer but we don’t spend all day worrying that we MIGHT get it one day. I think that’s the distinction. I think the saving grace in that fucking insane country is that, often, whoever gets in is just one cheek of the same arse but it’s more the implications on the rest of the planet I’m worried about. But things glided along on a knives edge last time and probably will again while the world burns

There's signal and there's noise. This affecting me personally may come one day, but in the meantime I can cut out all of the noise really easily by not listening to podcasts that obsess about this stuff, not watching the news, and not doing social media. That removes all of the OMG HES GONNA DO THIS! THEN HE'S GONNA DO THAT! IT'S GONNA BE SO BAD! If the will is there you can cut all of that noise out of your life. I'm not saying you can avoid it altogether. You'll see paper headlines or whatever but you can remove the vast vast majority of it. If you want to. Holden McGroin 6641
America is so diverse in its intellect and thinking. It’s 50 countries within a country. Sadly a lot of them are thick as mince but then you could label the UK like that now. Social media is the worst thing to happen to society. Trump will at most have a tangential impact on your life. Now if you were a woman in the US looking an abortion or someone living in the Ukraine I can understand how it would have a much bigger impact but the fact is that all of us are much more insulated from it.

The cunt has won the presidency, Senate, house of representatives, the Supreme Court and the popular vote. Trump is unhinged and there are theocratic autocrats in the wings. The World is a different darker place than it was. The enlightenment is in reversal. It will affect your day to day life, whether you like it or not. And definitely affect your children. It can effect my day to day life as much as it wants, I'll deal with it when whatever it is, is in front of me, I dealt with the death of my youngest son, 4 years ago next week as it happens, I sure as hell can deal with anything the world may want to throw at me. I henceforth, categorically refuse to waste breath, or thought, on shit I can't control. Let the fuckers get on with it. If I was younger, and me and the Mrs have had this conversation, there's no fucking way I'd now bring kids into this world. My eldest can face his day to day as best he can, I'll support him as I can, but the "big picture" can fuck off. I have lost my last shred of hope that there is an underlying decency in wider humanity, just look at the state of the place. The bad guys have won (again) as they usually do. Encouraged by a moronic US administration, Reform will likely win or at least become establishec in our next election, in the wider context we are fucked, a pissant little island self isolated from our neighbours. Labour have zero chance of turning this place around in 5 years now. We're not fucked today, we won't be fucked next week, next month or next year to a particularly noticeable degree. Maybe I am a tad over-emotional about it all as it's a tough time of year in this house now and through Christmas, but I am tuning out any and all socio-economic/political noise. Fuck it.

Dr Gloom 22011
Well done, America. We can debate how stupid they are from our ivory towers. Ultimately it was won on the economy. Inflation has brought down ruling parties all over the world and it did for the Democrats. Could they have won with a different candidate? I thought Kamala was impressive but again it appears the yanks aren’t ready for a woman president. Would a strong male candidate have made a difference? I doubt it. The truth is most US voters don’t really care if Ukraine falls or what an emboldened Russia means for Europe. They care about food prices.
