Fucking hell, I've just put the rugby at St James on. The pitch is getting fucking destroyed.

I like what they've done with all the SD signage, should be a permanent feature.

Newcastle manager Steve McClaren: "We came to win, we were attack minded. The goal just before half time woke them up and it was a whirlwind 13 minutes and we lost the game in those 13 minutes.

"This is the best team in the Premier League with a front four who can score at any opportunity. They took advantage of our missed chances and we got punished by world class players.
"The score was a little harsher than what we deserved. It was not the system, it was individual errors and world class finishing from Aguero.
"We are building character in that dressing room. We have played the top four in our first few games of the season. Our season now begins, we have Norwich coming up and we prepare for that."

Who was expecting us to get a result here? The only unexpected thing for me really was the scoreline, and to be honest, the only points I really expected us to pick up was a win v Watford (and Sheff Wed). Season starts now. Biggest game we've had since last game of last season after the international break.

McClaren BBC post match interview from here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34366600

Steve, 1st half chances, when you were 0-1 up...

Absoultely, we've looked back at the second goal that Mitrovic scored. It was onside. We came here to win. We set out to win. We played 4-4-2, we defended well, we were compact. And on the break, our transition, our crosses. We could have been 3 up before they scored. The goal just before half time knocked us a little bit. But you know, 4 or 5 goals in 10, 13 minutes...and you're coming up against a top quality team. We gave them opportunities. Aguero was world class, he's getting back to form. We were just punished by really a high quality opponent. We're disappointed we didn't go in 1-3 at half time.

On another day against another striker, are you...it seems daft to ask but are you happy with the performance to a point?

Up to a point, yes, it's baffling! Because we conceded 4 or 5 goals in 13 minutes. And in that period, this is what these teams can do to you, I've seen it so often. It was such a magnificent performance in the first half, we looked so good and we had the same last week against Chelsea. You know, we looked a damn good team. And for 13 minutes we got beat by world class individuals. But the players, I was just saying in there, we've had a tough 8 games, we've played a lot of tough teams, our season now has to begin. And we've got to take encouragement, or whatever we can, from the last two games. And what we're capable of doing. The system was excellent. The performance in that first half we competed and frightened them, and they killed us for it.

We saw yourself and Paul Simpson on the touchline in the second half when you were well beaten urging the players to fight. Did you get enough? Did you get what you wanted?

*Steve takes a sip of his brew*

It's very difficult isn't it when it's 6-1 you're just looking forward to the final whistle. It's difficult. But I've said in there that that either makes or breaks you. It either makes us stronger and take the two sides of it: The positive side: we came here to win. And I think we set up like that. I think we caused Man City problems here and we could have had more goals and should of done.

We just saw at the end, some of the supporters were urging your players to go over, I know you've encouraged them to do that every game, some of them went half way, should some of them go further to the fans and thank them?

Absolutely. We're trying to get that mentality, I mean the fans were fantastic, I thought most of them would probably have wanted to go home at half time after the first half performance but instead they have to go home rather dejected. I think it's up to us and all players have got to appreciate the fans. And our fans were magnificent. All the way through. Through the good times and bad times we've got to stick together and they've got to appreciate that. So we'll make sure that that gets done.

2 weeks with out a game, how much hard work is going to be put in at Newcastle United?

Whatever it takes, we've said in there that...whatever it takes. I've seen enough, especially in the last two weeks that our system, our shape, our performance: we can win football matches. We were unlucky last week. And this week, who knows at half time. We should have been 0-2 or 0-3 up, who knows the game could have changed? So there's enough in there. We've had a tough start, I've just said, 8 games have gone. Our season begins now.
