Alex 35104
I see Bournemouth have appealed Ming's violent conduct charge whereas Man Utd have accepted Zlatan's 3 match ban. I hope Mings gets hammered because that stamp was fucking disgusting and could've been a lot worse.

He knew exactly what he was doing and it could have ended up a lot worse.

ewerk 30647
He was already facing more than a 3 game ban I believe which is why they want to defend it and restrict it to as few matches as possible.

David Kelly 1245
I see Arsenal fans had a protest about Wenger last night. Has there ever been a more pathetic set of fans than that lot. I'm embarrassed I follow the same sport as those whinging cunts. I really hope he goes along with Sanchez and Ozil in the summer and they start to drop down the league. Rayvin 5223
I suspect they actually could improve on him if they made a string of correct decisions, but I don't know how likely that is. Plus, if Wenger goes the whole team would need an uplift, as it often feels like they're one of those sides that are more than the sum of their parts (Sanchez aside). Without Wenger, I'm not sure that team would hold together.
Alex 35104
It seems like a lifetime ago but they got very lucky when they plucked Wenger from obscurity (he was managing Gary Lineker's old side in Japan iirc). He replaced Bruce Rioch which seems difficult to believe now.
Rayvin 5223
Aye true enough. Arsenal were what... a top half side back then? Was there anything else special about them?
Alex 35104
Aye true enough. Arsenal were what... a top half side back then? Was there anything else special about them? They'd been very successful under George Graham although he didn't look like recapturing their league winning formula under him in the late 80s/early 90s they won a few cups but they were behind us in the reckoning when he arrived (although they'd point to success in various cups). They were still one of the top sides in the country in terms of pull. They had some class players too, Wright and Bergkamp and their back 5. They were a dirty set of bastards and not remotely attractive in terms of their football. I think part of the luck re: Wenger comes from what he inherited and then blending that with French players he knew and he'd worked with at a time when France had some of the best players in the world. He takes loads of credit for that but I think there's always a bit of luck involved. His rep was such (i.e. little known outside of France) that he may well have quickly been sacked if he hadn't done so well pretty soon in his career there. David Kelly 1245
Arsenal were near the top back then but from memory hadn't been in any real contention for quite a while. I think their fans think the job's a bigger attraction than what it is. They're undoubtedly a big club but I really don't see them in the same league as the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Barca, Real, Bayern, PSG even in terms of what managers they can attract to the club. So whoever they bring in is going to be a risk and I agree the team is more than the sum of its parts and it will be very difficult for a new manager with new ideas on how the game should be played, to get the best from them. I could easily see them falling behind.
Alex 35104
I also meant it was lucky in terms of Arsenal just trying something different in terms of bringing in a foreign manager rather than some masterstroke of employing this brilliant coach they'd known about for a while. I recall them having a rep for being something of a team of bruisers.
David Kelly 1245
He's made the mistake of not trying to recapture what he inherited in terms of the physical spine. It's been the missing piece of the jigsaw for them imo. But without him I don't think it would be as simple to do it.
Rayvin 5223
Might they have a sort of reversal of the initial transition though? If they bring in a Pulis style manager (imagine ) and that person instills a solid spine, they might get a few years of being balanced properly again. Because I've seen that logic applied to other managers - Pardew at Palace was one iirc.

Kid Dynamite 7034
Wenger won the league 3 times in a time when the league was a 2 horse race. Bar Blackburn in '95 there were only 2 clubs who won the league in 12 seasons He had a bit of luck with signings (Henry, Pires, Viera) and some decent stalwarts he inherited (Seaman, Adams, Keown, Dixon, Winterburn, Parlour, Wright). Same applies to Man U who lucked out with Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, Butt and both Neville's who gave them half a starting XI for a decade without having to spend a penny. As soon as Abramovich arrived on the scene in 2004 Wenger barely had a sniff of the league again. Alex 35104
Mentioned him inheriting Bergkamp above (Rioch signed him from Inter I think) and I don't think Wenger would've signed him.
Kid Dynamite 7034
As much as they come across as spoiled bairns, I can kind of understand why fans paying £3k+ for a season ticket are pissed off that they never seem to address the issues in their squad season after season. As an NUFC fan you would love 4th place and a CL 1/4 final every season, but after a decade of it you would be hoping to make the step up
PaddockLad 17286
There's nothing really changed very much on the pitch for a decade tbf. A lot of bell ends with a sense of entitlement follow them, but as KD says if you're paying 2-3k for a ST you should be entitled to discernible progress of some kind or other and mostly fuck all to speak of has happened. PS if you know any gooners ask them who was the last team to stop them getting a champions league place was

But to have a protest march about a man who has achieved what he has there is beyond ridiculous.
