Howay 12496
I know they're there for money and they'll be rightly chuffed with the money they're getting but on some level surely it'll feel utterly fucking shite playing in an empty stadium after playing in packed ones in Europe, South America, Africa, etc like they've been doing up to this point. Ayatollah Hermione 13787
I love how they do all the handshaking and posing before games in closed stadiums. Just hoof a ball on, get in position and get on with it.

ewerk 30235
The irony is supposed to be that they've spent all this money on players but no one is interested enough to turn up to watch them. I get that but it isn't true.
Anorthernsoul 1221
So you did it. It's well known the Chinese get big crowds. So that isn't an issue. The irony lies in the fact there's been so much money spent, a big build up to the new season and the big opening game is played in an empty stadium. Massive anti climax They should have picked another fixture to start the season.

rogerbarton 24
I think BT's strategy is sound - and they have the cash to take Sky on. I do wonder if shareholders might begin to get a little antsy though, given the recent Italian accounting scandal, that they are ploughing so much into this. It's interesting that viewing figures seem to be declining for both the PL and Champions League (though I think lower TV uptake of BT is certainly responsible for latter) yet the cot keeps going up. At the end of the day, Sky and BT are both going to be counting their subscribers rather than actual viewers, though, and all the evidence shows that live football rights are a winner. There's talk that BT might sub-lease some of the CL games, possibly to Channel 4, which I think would be good.
ewerk 30235
Given that BT are prepared to pay that much after having it for a few years shows that the strategy must be working for them. Though they are starting to charge BT customers for access.
