At the match last night there were spells when the crowd were trying to get behind the team and the younger lads still keep droning on the tuneless and hopeless drivel that is the 'one club made out of two clubs' song. Fuck me, it's like a wet blanket being thrown over a fire, after six years or so they still haven't taken the hint. Nobody joins in BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING SHIT.

I used to have it, too. Also had a hat with the same spelling of ha'way the lads, but that was before nufc put a 'howay the lads' sign in the tunnel and the mackems obviously had to spell it differently to us when their flat pack was built thus the daft argument about the correct way for us and them to spell ha'way/howay came about.

Me and Gemmill have been over this and he claims ha'way is correct because it's an abbreviation of half way. I pointed out that linguists/academics often suggest it's just as (if not more) appropriate to spell colloquialisms phonetically. What a chortle we had during that debate.

If its phonetic it's got to be ha'way, surely? (Or even ha'ware).

In fear of Stevie's now hypocritical abuse I've always shied away from saying I've always thought of it as haway and assumed it was one of those region within a region things which suggested ST was mackem-esque to a degree.

I would say 'ware' sometimes, aye - but was thinking of a 'o' as in hot rather than 'ow' as in how. Not that it matters that much.
