Better than them winning. So we thought they'd lose this and get 7 points before. Now we think, presumably they'll get 8 points. Either for 7 or 8 points, we'd need 9 from our remaining games, so on that side of things it's better than nothing (i.e. nothing has changed really).

Still dunno if I see them winning any of their remaining games though. They draw a lot but win? I could see them drawing all of them in truth.

And it would mean that smug git Pardew going to Wembley when I don't think he ever took us past the fourth round

It's a Semi final, the cunt is already there.

It was a decent performance from them tbf. The first time I've watched 90 mins of a Sunderland match all season other then the derbies and if they keep playing like that I can see them getting a few results,

Everton, Watford and Stoke are all games I'd be surprised to see them lose.

Yeah I can see them getting 2 wins at least, which means we'd need 3 to stand a chance

The only positive I can muster is that Sunderland really seem to struggle to convert draws to wins, often conceding winning positions. What is it now, 2 wins in 12? So unless they improve on this we can still pass them. As I said yesterday though, it's their fixtures that worry me. Honestly think we could get 6 points against palace and Villa and still be down before the last day.

So if Chelsea hold Spurs to a draw next week Leicester only need to win 1 of their last 3 games to take the title. And Everton are in free fall so should be a walkover

Aye, basically. If Spurs draw they can only get to 78 points. Leicester would only need 3 points from their last 3. Think Chelsea will try and stop Spurs winning it too. Spurs have gone on a fantastic run but you'd think there's a slip up (even if they only draw a game) coming.

I agree with this. The one glimmer of hope I got from watching their match yesterday was that Arsenal were absolutely shocking, so soft all over the pitch but especially in defence, but the mackems still never really looked like scoring - for all their positivity in the second half they were still mostly reduced to shooting from distance. If they can just draw another couple of blanks and Defoe just manages to miss the couple of chances/half chances he'll probably get, we might be in with a shout. Similar applies to Norwich but they look more likely to ship goals than the mackems so I probably wouldn't expect them to get anything off Arsenal and Man U.

Allardyce hasn't a fucking clue how to go for wins. He basically plays for the draw, hopes they score from somewhere and they hold on or catch the team on the break if that team is particularly shit and wide open looking for an equaliser. I don't like the form book of the clubs they're playing but I do know the mindset of Sunderland. They struggle to break down teams they've a chance of beating.

Aye they're fucking shite, they aren't just going to go and win 3 games. If we win two we'll be in with a really good shot at staying up, we're also shite mind but at least we look a bit more capable under Rafa. The mackems will scrap a load of draws but I can't see them winning many of their remaining games.

normally i'd agree when it comes to allardyce's style, but did you watch the match yesterday? they looked up for it tbf and caused arsenal quite a few problems. they didn't nick a point, it was well deserved and on another day they could have won it. they hit the post as well.

Agreed, not seen anything bar that 3-0 against Norwich to suggest that they're capable of routinely winning games. We are at least scoring goals now which on the balance of things makes us more likely to win games.

That said, let's be honest here, despite everything we're not going to stay up. Had we beaten Liverpool and the mackems lost to Arsenal, I think that would have turned the tables - but there just aren't enough games left.

Getting Rafa in a couple of games earlier could have made all the difference. If they'd have appointed him after the Chelsea game we could have had him in charge for Stoke (a) 1-0 & Bournemouth (h) 1-3 we could have had another 4 or 6 points. Instead they continued on with McClaren & his "things are getting better" spiel when evidently they weren't

Yeah, we're clearly going to be left ruing what could have been. :(

Totally agree with Gloom, they were well deserving of that point.

I thought they looked threatening yesterday. Arsenal were poor, Ozil was non existent, Giroud shite and their defence looked weak and slow through the middle but the tramps were putting them under preasure. They looked at least as likely to score as Arsenal did.
