Dr Gloom 22143
what do you look back on about your childhood that give you that nostalgic tingle down the back of your spine? i'll kick things off with: jumpers for goalpost games of football at school that started before 9am, continued during playtimes and dinnertime and concluded after school with a 23-22 scoreline british bulldog giant refreshers and wham bars 10p mixups that contained over 20 sweets curby bench ball attic attack on the zx spectrum marathon weekend bike rides on my bmx to the tree swing at macro, washington. NJS 4411
Going to the beach and actually swimming in the sea during the summer with scant regard for weather/sea conditions. Challenging other groups of lads to a game of football, sometimes never to meet again, sometimes becoming mortal enemies and sometimes making friends you've still got decades later. Monkeys Fist 43064
Finding bags of porn mags in the bushes. Damn you internet, you've ruined it. ( never did work out quite why anyone would stash their grot outside, like ?)
Dr Gloom 22143
totally a bit wrong looking back on it though innit, knocking one out over a second hand jazz mag found randomly outside
Monkeys Fist 43064
As if that was foremost in the mind. I'm convinced there's a bush/bush correlation- when porn was stashed in bushes, the growlers were like mohair jumpers. When the arboreal stashes disappeared, so did the flange fur. I'd like to hear Parky's thoughts on this

That properly fucked me up. [emoji38] I'm just a genuine deep thinker, ok guys?
Dr Gloom 22143
Remember When The Wind Blows? I was properly scared of nuclear war when I was a kid. my parents bought me that. it left me traumatised, not exactly a light hearted comic book for an impressionable 8 year old. Raymond Briggs could be canny dark as well as funny and sentimental. There was also that thing he did which was a proper pop at the Falklands War when the whole country were convincing themselves what a glorious victory it had been. There was also a thing he did about the rather dreary life if his mam and dad. Can't remember the name of either. I went to the Laing gallery a few years ago to see an exhibition and stumbled upon another one that was there which was all kids' books illustrators. It had original stuff by Raymond Briggs, Quentin Blake and Stephen Biesty amongst others. It pissed all over the main exhibition.

Catching a glimpse of your reflection in just blazer and shirt and thinking "now this is a look I could do something with", then having that thought beaten right out of your head, only for it to resurface years later. trooper 940
At 14 having a david bowie hair cut and dyeing it bright orange like the pin ups album. It was 1973 i loved the glam rock era but drew a line on wearing make up. In my platform shoes and 28" Oxford Bags (really wide trousers) i thought i was the dogs bollocks. Monkeys Fist 43064
Other than finding the above mentioned grot, I spent loads of my childhood cycling to and climbing trees in Gosforth park, finding lost golf balls in the woods by the course there and selling them to golfers for a pound a bag, the ones that didn't chase us anyway Trips the Lake District with Pa Fist were regular features too. He once took me, my brother and five mates for a weeks camping to Ullswater, in his Allegro. Mentalist.
