Sonatine 11276
I can believe Carver had said that he's been offered the job, but it's open to debate if it really happened outside the confines of his own head
NJS 4355
I'd be astonished if Carver isn't appointed tbh. Probably after a token "we tried but just couldn't get anyone over the line".

Do you think Ashley would risk £118m from TV money, the emptying of St James', the cancellation of Season Tickets, the increased difficulty in signing players simply to save a bob or two? I cannot fathom this disconnect from reason.

I cannot fathom this disconnect from reason. I don't think he'd do it to save money, he'd do it because he genuinely believes that Carver will match his targets once the squad has supposedly been improved because its only the squad quality that's affected the results as far as they're concerned. Well I couldn't disagree more, but I guess we'll just circle each other until we find out, so it's all moot.

The Fish 10672
Fish is gonna seriously lose his shit when Carver signs. Nope I'll admit I was wrong. Will you lot do the same? or simply shift attention to the next inevitable disaster that surely looms large on the horizon?

Ausman 0
Have to agree with Fish, there is no way hell Ashley is going to risk all that money on a chancer like Carver. First and foremost he loves making money and he's not going to do that with him, especially with all that TV money involved.

The club is a disaster though, no horizon necessary.
Alex 34725
Carvers perfect for Ashley he wont question anything they do. He'd be perfect, perhaps, if he showed any signs of being a competent PL manager.
Alex 34725
He did it last game by not sacking Carver. Well Shteve McClaren was telling everyone who'd listen he turned us down. Assuming that's true, Ashley tried to removed Carver but ended up with little choice other than to stick with him for the time being.

Andrew 4713
Carvers perfect for Ashley he wont question anything they do. Yet hes quite clearly demonstrated that over the course of a full season he isn't capable of keeping a team in the premier league. In his time since taking over he has a terrible record of results, has proven incapable of handling the media and pressure from fans and has totally lost the dressing room. Hardly the no-fuss approach Ashley wants from his manager

Possibly but if he has competely lost the dressing room then there is little point in him carrying on. Even promoting someone else for 3 games would have been worth the gamble. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors though. Maybe the players decided to put their differences with him aside for the next few games? I've heard Pedro isn't remotely interested in the job so I doubt he'd have said 'aye' to 3 games on a hiding to nowt. Stone probably has less respect than Carver. Maybe the players decided to put their differences with him aside for the next few games? I honestly think the players have decided they're the only ones who can get us out of this. That player meeting which the coaches were excluded from was as likely used to tell a few of the want-away players to sort their lives out, as it was saying "look, we're getting nothing from the coaches, it's on us".
