Kevin Carr's Gloves 3991
I have a dodgy shoulder and have been getting hydrocortisone injections to ease the pain. Dr reckons I would be better off getting a bone removed. Anyone got any knowledge of this.
The Fish 10972
Do you get to pick the bone? If so; I know it's tempting but little toes are really important for balance, so avoid choosing one of those.
Kevin Carr's Gloves 3991
is this the one where they go in through front of your neck to do it? lad in work had something like that done Yep that's the one Ant.
Dr Gloom 22188
i would generally do everything to avoid going under the knife as a rule, personally. but i don't know a lot about the procedure or condition you're suffering from. is the pain bad enough to warrant an op? You know when you twist your ankle and you get that initial burst of pain? My shoulder feels like that all the time.
Rayvin 5326
Have they said what caused it? It is posture or did you jar it doing something or other? I only ask because if it's posture, couldn't it be tackled by taking steps to sit upright etc. I know it's a total ball ache to do that but I spend a lot of time trying to do it myself for reasons along these lines. catmag 337
Shoulder surgery is notoriously hit and miss when it comes to recovering full movement and becoming totally pain-free, but it depends what you're living with at the moment. Have you been referred to an ortho surgeon yet or is this advice from your GP? I'd be inclined to take the advice of a specialist in the area if it was me. My shoulder feels like that all the time. if you've exhausted all options and are unable to manage it with meds and physio then perhaps you should consider it. i just personally view surgery as the last resort. Gemmill 46141
Considering what any pain meds are likely to do to you in the long run, I'd get on the surgery and see if it works before I got stuck on meds for life.
Dr Gloom 22188
i have found a combination of meds and physio a useful way to get over injuries, personally.
catmag 337
I suspect this is something a bit more complicated. Is this part of the long-term injuries KCG?
Dr Gloom 22188
yeah, i'm no shoulder expert so i should leave it to the experts here. all my issues have been back-related. my view on surgery is mostly based on my gran's experiences. she had all kinds of ops over the years, many of which i reckon were unnecessary and related to her overall physical decline, which left her with a fused leg, in a wheelchair. I'm assuming this is a chronic condition rather than something that he's going to recover from. So the long term (lifelong) use of meds would be something to avoid if it can be fixed with surgery. I would have thought anyway.
