You must’ve got that in Oz?… Yes, we got TOTP it was shown late in the evenings on our version of the beeb, the ABC but growing up here you watched Countdown (different to the UK same name show) which was our Sunday evening at 1800, so dinner viewing, version of TOTP. And looking at that top 10, I can guess that's why I hate so much shite commercial music, at least the Tourists were charting here! Edit actually watching all of it, Blondie and The Vapors give me some hope but the rest of it, ffs. Edited February 7 by sammynb

Stubbs has been unconvincingly claiming to be the king of soho during 1987. He reckons he was considered to be very intimidating at the time.

Might give that a watch this evening. You might also remember them appearing on the soundtrack to Darren Aronofsky’s debut film Pi
Gemmill 49965 Posted Sunday at 08:38 Share Posted Sunday at 08:38 I'm halfway through it. My lass has just walked in, took one look at the telly which was a load of bleeps and bloops and people wandering about at a rave in Japan, given me "the look", and now I'll be watching the rest later.
Alex 36716 Posted Sunday at 08:47 Share Posted Sunday at 08:47 (edited) Not that I’ve ever been to Japan but for any number of reasons, though mainly lack of supply and harsh penalties, their rave and club scene was relatively drug free. At least back in the 90s it was. But they still went mental for hard, fast minimal techno as played by the likes of Robert Hood and Jeff Mills. Gemmill 49965 Posted Sunday at 08:50 Share Posted Sunday at 08:50 Aye it didn't look like a UK rave, so I can believe that.

The quality (or lack thereof) of the acts on the particular show they’re discussing doesn’t detract from it at all. It’s often better when it’s shit. They talk about loads of other stuff happening at the time of the original broadcast. Not to mention the presenters. Obviously you wouldn’t have the same cultural experience as those of us ‘lucky’ enough to have grown up in the 70s and 80s in the UK but you’d still get a lot out of it imo. And Taylor Parkes and Neil Kulkani (RIP) in particular are superb at just taking about music.

Taylor Parkes talking about David Lee Roth's version of California Girls, which Simon Bates described as "an update on the Beach Boys original". Parkes: it's an update on the original in the same way that a toilet full of warm shit is an update on steak and chips.
