Got to say what I’ve heard of Parquet Floors I’ve really liked but there another band that passed me by a bit, same with the likes of LCD Sound System and Arcade Fire…only properly started listening to Foals during lockdown… where’s best to start with PF @sammynb?  🤔

@PaddockLad mate TBH like you I'd heard them but never really got right into it but after last night I will be making an effort. I'm going to spend the next week listening my way through their bandcamp page - https://parquetcourts.bandcamp.com/

My main reason for going was the support is a great Sydney band called Loose Fit who rarely play shows and they were brilliant as well. https://loosefit.bandcamp.com/

For lovers of fine music, so CT you can stop reading now, Bass Drum of Death are just about to tour the UK, 30/09 London (Roundhouse), 01/10 Newcastle (Uni) and 10/10 Brighton (Chalk but with the Lemonheads) (hopefully I didn't miss out anyone that cares).

Amazing and entertaining live. More details: https://www.bassdrumofdeath.com/

This it their new single.

And a KEXP show from a few years back.

@sammynb Am seeing Lemonheads on October 12 in Southampton….no doubt your bass drum friends are on the bill too…

@PaddockLad It actually looks like all the UK gigs are supporting the Lemonheads, which is a shame as Evan Dando is a cunt. Is he still married to that lass from Newcastle?

Make sure you get there early enough for BDOD.

I'm very jealous of that. You heard the dub version of Metal Box that he's released?

This is top of my list of albums to find atm.

Yeah it’s immense, really looking forward to it. Bit of a “bucket list” gig for me, never seen him before, he’s a fuckin hero. Definitely the best Spurs fan ever to draw breath :D

Dando is a bit if a dick, saw him during his cross dressing phase nearly 30 years ago. They’re doing “it’s a shame about Ray” start to finish, regardless of Dando’s attention seeking it’s a great album, and I sort of associate it with the first invaders of the heart album, I think they cane out roughly the same time?  Both brilliant…

I've only seen Dando perform live once (about 10 years ago, Belladrum) and he was fucking brilliant but the polar opposite of what I was expecting. I went in expecting something verging on Elliott Smith and was met by some bizarre, short but high-energy full-on rock set where he came across as more Scott Weiland strutting about the stage with an SS hat.

Not sure if I caught him on a good or a bad day but it quite the performance. Weird guy.

I find it amusing that Dandos biggest hits were written by Australians!

What happened there? I’ve not heard the story.

Long story short, they ripped off half a dozen Wire songs. When challenged Justine claimed she had never heard of Wire and was countered with "you personally named them as your biggest influence on the liner notes of your album".

Stranglers (and others) also went after them over the waking up riff being lifted from No More Heroes.

I do have a little sympathy for Justine,  there's only 12 notes in the scale and smack probably blues the lines a bit.

I’m still gobsmacked by the ruling that Nirvana got away with such a blatant rip off of 80s by Killing Joke and it was even dismissed in court. Yeah Jazz might be a head case but Geordie’s guitar work in Killing Joke has been ground breaking.

Alison from “Alison’s starting to happen” was one of your mob too…not sure if any of the smudge dudes get a writing credit on IASAR but they should do….it’s not remotely similar to the Ekastica/Wire or Nirvana/Killing Joke thing though,  Dando and Tom Morgan were collaborators :good:

The lass he married was in the year below me at school. I think they split up years ago but it was amicable. He used to always play at the Cluny around Xmas time iirc. Jah Wobble is fucking class btw. Made some of the funkiest baselines known to man

Ian Brown kicking off his new tour in Leeds last night with no band and no Roses numbers (he usuallly plays 2/3) for the bargain price of 40-50 quid means I can cancel the Twickets alert I’ve set up for his gig in Bournemouth a week tomorrow :good:
