The Fish 10965
If Moussa Sissoko goes the journey this January – and the noises that he is making seem to suggest he is ready for a move if Arsenal show their hand – then Newcastle fans want to know there is a succession plan. Yohan Cabaye left and Newcastle are still trying to fill the creativity void left by the France schemer. His best man and best pal Mathieu Debuchy departed, but Newcastle made it a seamless transition by identifying and then signing Daryl Janmaat in a matter of days. Few would argue that the Holland defender is any worse than the player he replaced. If Sissoko goes, Newcastle’s driving force will go with him. But there is an answer being cooked up in the United transfer committee and he goes by the name of Jordan Veretout – the best midfielder from France that you’ve probably never heard of. Now United’s chief scout Graham Carr might be in the thick of the head coach recruitment process, but that doesn’t mean that scouting isn’t going on. Indeed Newcastle have checked out the France under-21 team several times this season, and it would be little surprise if talent-spotters were at Monaco on Saturday when Nantes roll into town. At just 21, Veretout has scored six times this season. He’s supposedly coveted by Arsenal, but the truth is, for the money Nantes would want the Gunners would be unlikely to bite. Newcastle might, if flushed by Sissoko cash. A tidy playmaker who has a good work ethic and plays in behind the No 10, he’s an option if the worst happens. Rayvin 5296
Doubt Arsenal need him. What for? They have Giroud and Welbeck. Palace probably would want him but I don't think he'd go to them before us, even with our managerial issues. Schalke and Dortmund maybe.

The Fish 10965
Apparently Borussia Dortmund, Schalke,Arsenal & Palace are all interested as well. It's bollocks. It'll be his agent pushing for a new contract or whatever. I mean, look at those clubs, they're hardly of a type are they? They've been plucked out of the Agents rolodex so he can get into contract discussions. We'll not be signing Gomis but Swansea might be signing Cisse. David Kelly 1260
Gomis hasn't impressed me at all the few times I've seen him play for Swansea. He doesn't look at all mobile.
The Fish 10965
That's why I think his agent is creating these rumours; if he'd been firing the goals in and performing well then I'd expect interest. Yet his performances haven't impressed and his goal record is poor.

Rayvin 5296
Sunderland have 'won' the 'race' to sign Defoe apparently I mean, supposedly 10 clubs were interested. How many of them would have paid him more than £30k/week on the other hand...

The Fish 10965
£80k a week man. That's mental for a 32yr old, especially one who hasn't played at a high level for ages.

Dr Gloom 22149
? Janmaat is better than Defoe, so was Cabaye, so is Sissoko... you're dreaming if you reckon we're going to get a proven goal scorer that knows how to do it in the premier league like defoe. To be fair, you said "quality" My point was that we've signed a fair few players that are better quality than Defoe is. Also, Defoe hasn't scored a single goal for sunderland and you're saying he's already better than Cisse/Perez? He was once quality, but how much of that has been dulled by age and lack of genuine competition? Think you're just morphing your Nobody decent will manage us argument into a Nobody decent will sign for us.

As it stands I would say newcastle don't need a player like defoe as perez is performing as well as anyone at the moment. Cisse, well I'd like to see the back of him. 29 years old and too inconsistent.

A good player mind, on the whole, but probably is time to move him on. That said, it'd be nice to have some other serious strikers before we do. Noelie 103
Because there is no news flying about in regards to potential targets and we're already 2 weeks into the January window, I can't help but think that perhaps we aren't going to add anyone, and that the return of DeJong, Abeid, Santon, Aarons, perhaps even Jonas will be considered enough to strengthen the squad to maintain a position in the top 10. I would be really disappointed, but not surprised, if we didn't sign anyone in this window.
