From Real Madrid to QPR. I don't think so. He will have his sights set much higher.

From assistant to manager.

If they stay up they'd be a move that makes sense

I think it makes it more interesting anyway - you get to see some of the smaller teams making a serious go of things. In Bradford's case, if their game is televised in the Quarters, they'll get a serious influx of money which will do them a lot of good.

On the other hand, fielding weakened teams diminishes the quality of the competition, but looking at it honestly, the players at the really big clubs don't even bother trying even when they are fit.

How do you prove that though, if clubs maintain their players aren't fit to play?

You're also entitled to rest players and you have can cite that the players who've replaced them are part of your declared Premier League squad and, therefore, able deputies. Even if it's bollocks, proving it is a different matter. The only people likely to get stung is a 'minnow' who basically plays a load of kids and throws a cup tie. The authorities are shit scared of upsetting Chelsea, Man City and so on.

What about a panel of your peers? Say 9 League Managers receive the tea sheets for upcoming ties, they then say whether or not it's their belief that the team is deliberately throwing the tie or simply rotating the squad they have at their disposal. Majority rules.

Just an idea.

I dunno, I'm pretty tired.

Honestly had to read that four times before I caught it.

Thoughts on my thought?

Don't think it would work in practice. There's a vested interest for those making the judgements.

I suppose.

Fwiw I didn't suggest ex-pros as they've proven time & again they know fuck all and would be outraged that Stoke played Bojan ahead of Crouch (or whatever).

Also I suppose that for teams like Arsenal, who use the early rounds of the cups to give out valuable competitive experience with the 1st team, they'd be forced omit those youngsters. Even though the team would likely be good enough to survive in the Premier League & as such can you really say it's weak?

It's basically mid-to-bottom of the table Premier League clubs that are the problem and if that's the case (that 7 or 8 average sides can't be arsed) is that such a bad thing?

Nobody gives a toss if Aston Villa knock out Arsenal, or actually nobody gives a toss that Newcastle knocked out Man City at their place, and a struggling Premier League side losing to Bradford is not really an"upset"... So is it such a bad thing?

Put Roy Keane in charge of determining whether they've fielded weakened sides or not. That twat answers to no man and you'd get both the truth and some entertainment out of his verdicts.

It's just hard because teams like Chelsea can field their 'back ups' with blokes like Schrulle etc and it's seen as fine because those type of players would walk into the starting 11's of 75% of the league, yet when a team like Villa play their back ups it's fielding a weakened side because it's judged as putting out a side that's below Prem standard. I just think it should be up to the manager tbh, once the competition starts getting to the later rounds people will start taking it more seriously anyway (mind Arsenal played all their kids a few year ago all the way up to the final or semi final iirc and got praised for it because their kids are good but tbh it's still fielding a weakened side).

I think it's also a bit harsh on the lads who get a chance to play in the cup and are normally back ups as it's like the FA coming and saying they're a bit shit.

You would have to question the judgement of any manager who wants the job after sitting through that game against City.

He wants a premier league job, not a Championship one
