trooper 940
Dont be surprised if Ashley gives Carver the job if he does it will be at a fraction of the cost of anyone else. Any other manager is going to want to bring their own backroom staff and want money to bring in their own players i.e. wont be a cheap option. Carver on the other hand has all the backroom staff in place already knows the craic with transfers i.e. wont rock the boat and is desperate for the job. As has been said, I think if Carver was going to get the job full time, it'd be his already. It'd be no great surprise that he'd do it cheaper than everyone else. While it'd be par for the course if Ashley's NUFC announced Carver would be the caretaker manager until the summer, (then offer it to him in summer at a cut price) if that was going to happen, it already would have. Really hoping it'll be a Jonny Foreigner so that the press can wander about with SackGarde.com banners while we call them fickle and deluded. Rayvin 5311
Couldn't the £3m received for Pardew be used to cover all of that? They can't be paid that much ffs.

Rayvin 5311
Again though, remember that it's not in Ashley's interests to put Carver in charge and risk us getting relegated. This might be just too early in the season for him to take the calculated risk to be honest. Also, it's much cheaper to bring in a good manager with a good backroom team than it is to buy players; if he finds someone who can get the team performing, it'll benefit him in the long run. If I was him, I'd be prepared to spend a bit more on this appointment in order to provide stability and, more than anything, good value for money for player transfers (i.e. the players we buy are used correctly and appreciate in value). This, I get peoples fear about Ashley but putting Carver in charge puts us at a massive risk of relegation even from the position we're in this year let alone giving him a full season. The blokes fucking clueless tbh. I think he'll look for a manager who can get performances out of players which would raise their value rather than just trying to save a little bit on a manager. David Kelly 1260
Garde seems like a good fit for us really. He's done well with limited resources and seems to be well regarded as a coach and has been able to cope with his best players being sold from under him. The fact there's no compensation is also ideal. You would think that Ashley would be willing to spend a bit to get him the coaches he wants in his team. Let's face it, backroom staff aren't going to cost the earth. We'd more than likely be able to bring in who he wants and get rid of anyone he doesn't (I would think there's a decent chance at least Carver or Stone would stay for a bit of continuity anyway) and still have money left over from Pardew. It could be that only Woodman needs to be paid off and he won't be on much of a wage (comparitively). Rayvin 5311
Was just having a bit of a scan back through the forum and came across the thread where Pardew unveiled Carver as the new assistant manager. Seems like everyone was well on board with him being signed up then. Are we just older and wiser now or has he lost the plot a bit in the past few years? Or would we never have wanted him as a manager anyway?

Under the bad spells with Pardew, Carver has been either useless or spineless and I'm not sure which but it doesn't reflect well on him. Not only that but he was a staunch support of Pardew - to the point he offered out fans for a fight.

I guess SBR swore by him but even so...
trooper 940
If he's honest he only offered the fans out because he knew if Pardew had been sacked he was away with him. Same reason he's put himself up for the managers job because he know's whoever comes in are going to want their own people with them & he'll be down the road
