Terrorism

"Known to police" could mean a wide range of things and we can't just lock up everyone on the grounds of suspicion or some misdemeanour.

Why are all the perpetrators always "Known to police"? So that means the police know they are a threat surely, so why are they free to maim and murder innocent people on our soil? It doesn't make sense, I thought the authorities are employed to protect us?

Because we don't live in minority report world yet, at a guess.

There's no smoke without fire though, there's no coincidence that these people flagged up on the Terror spectrum go onto carry out or be involved in attacks.

Absolutely pointless the Snooper's Charter then as these attacks just keep on coming.

It's almost as if terrorism was a scare tactic to get people to accept the huge violation of privacy that it entails

We were doing it during the 70's.

Fair enough point but for who? If we do it now, we're going to end up targeting 'certain communities', which is arguably only going to make the problem worse.

Which is exactly what happened in the 70's.

You don't know how many have been prevented. We're told it hundreds though. Some will always slip the net. It's horrible but something we he to accept and try to put in context.

Right, so we even have recent precedent to demonstrate why this would be a bad idea.

Not to mention it's now completely at odds with the HRA and would make us the No.1 target for Islamic terrorism in the world.

Aye exactly. Although at the end of the day we aren't powerless here. We're choosing to remain tolerant, and I think that's laudable.

The lyric "one less white nigger came though my headphones as I read that". Synchronicity.

We'll probably never know, it's pure speculation. Also sadly this will be no consolation to anyone directly affected by the attack. The words "On the Police's radar" will be sickening. It also has to be said that the muslim community have a part to play in this aswell, there'll be people that know things are going on but remaining silent. There has to be.

Aye, I'd like to publically apologise for all the atrocities committed by the IRA in my lifetime while we're handing out blame.

I'd imagine the security forces have been very effective given how rare these events are.

Yeah, I'm pretty cynical about most things but I'm genuinely surprised this hasn't happened a lot more often in this country in recent years.

I know Isis claimed responsibility but they always do. if turns out it's an Isis-inspired lone wolf, rather than a co-ordinated attack, there's not much that can be done to prevent copycat strikes without an even bigger crackdown on civil liberties. I think on balance the security forces have got things about right. This was the worst attack by far since 2005 and we have only seen a handful since then. If we suddenly see this sort thing happen every few weeks or months then things might change.

Stop being a wanker.

Not the time for it, but you're not being sensible at the moment (which is to be expected).

Now isn't the time for assigning blame like, it's too raw. Eventually though, there is going to be an awkward conversation about this - not because it's necessarily merited, I might add.
