Have your opinions of our squad depth changed?

I'm pleasantly surprised that our youngsters aren't rubbish, but if not for that, we'd be deep in it.

Still, if the coaching staff were aware of this quality then I guess fair enough. If they weren't, then they're very fortunate.

Yes. Aarons, Abeid, Sammy, Perez and Obertan have become important squad players which you wouldnt have thought at the start of the season. Thats 5 players so obviously I now feel we've got a stronger squad than I did at the start of the season.

There's still gaping holes in the CB and attacking departments though. When Cisse or Coloccini are out you can see how much we struggle. Slightly less in Cisse's case because Perez has been able to perform but it will become harder for him in the second half of the season as the rest of the league starts to 'figure him out'.

Just so long as Pardew isn't credited with unearthing these players. It's not like Tiote was playing poorly so Pardew gave Abeid a shot.

I still think we're poor at centre forward and centre half, but the hope is that Pardew realises that we now have the opportunity to try different formations or to make tactical substitutions instead of "errrrr lets' throw on our only flair player for 15 minutes"/"look it's time to swap the left back, and that's that"

We look better then we thought we did at the start of the season given that Abeid, Sammy, Dummett and Obertan have contributed well when we had all pretty much written them off. Perez has also probably contributed more than we would have expected at this stage.

I suppose the flip side of that is that SDJ, Riviere, Cabella and Chucky have all done less than we would have hoped. Overall though I think we have more options than we had this time last year even though we don't have any players as good as Cabaye and Remy.
