January Transfer Rumours

Badji is a central midfielder and he stands at 6″ 3¨ tall, so he is a powerful player and has so far been capped a couple of times by Senegal.

He is a versatile midfielder and has played as a defensive central midfielder, attacking midfielder and a right midfielder.

One reason that Newcastle are interested in him is that we have found out that he has a buy-out clause in his contract of only £750K, and as we all know Mike Ashley is always keen on bargains, especially if the player also comes at a low price in the transfer market.

The last time he played for Senegal was back in 2011, so he’s not good enough to make the Senegal squad, but he was a regular for the Senegal U23 side who played in the Olympic Games in London in 2012.

If he joins a high-profile club like Newcastle United he could see more opportunities at International level, and that has happened with players like Yohan Cabaye, Mathieu Debuchy and Moussa Sissoko who hadn’t played too often for France when they joined Newcastle, but became France regulars while at Newcastle.

Newcastle haven’t replaced Yohan Cabaye since he left the club almost a year ago for PSG, and Cheick Tiote has been making noises about wanting to leave Newcastle, possible in January – and Arsenal are said to be interested.

Badji could add to Newcastle’s central midfield and he can play as either an attacking or defensive midfield player – so for just £750K he could be a good buy for the club, and his wages will not be huge either.

If Newcastle do sign him, we’ll have to trust in the ability of Chief Scout Graham Carr to pick out those players who can make it in the Premier League, and Graham has a very decent record of doing that since he joined Newcastle in February of 2010.

Badji signed a four year contract with SL Brann on March 1st last year, and he has so far played 78 times for his Norwegian club.

Where's that from Fish? Sounds like just the kind of deal we'd be keen on. I'm also becoming more and more confident that Tiote will go soon (I still can't see Wenger wanting to sign him, he's just not a good enough ball player, although they clearly need an enforcer in there) and we're playing anyone instead of Anita at the minute so it's quite possible that there's a couple of midfield places ready to open up. If those two went we'd be down to Colback, Sissoko and Abeid realistically for the engine room and that isn't really enough.

Newcastle linked with Lewis MacLeod transfer
Yesterday by Graham Porter

News in the Scotland media that Newcastle United are now taking an interest in Lewis MacLeod.

The likes of Villa and Burnley have already had the twenty year old midfielder watched by scouts.

SJP21.jpgThe Rangers star man received his first full international call up last week and sat on the bench as Scotland were defeated by England.

With eight goals already this season, MacLeod is vital to Rangers’ hopes this season and with the defeat to Hearts meaning the Glasgow club are now nine points behind their Edinburgh rivals for automatic promotion (play-off for those finishing second to fourth). It is obviously vital Rangers keep their best players to try and make that instant return to the top division.

Obviously any concrete interest by Newcastle United would have the extra element of Mike Ashley’s involvement.

With ever increasing commercial involvement at the Glasgow club and the Newcastle owner having now loaned Rangers £3m (so far) to keep them going this season, any transfer(s) between the two clubs will be eyed with extra interest.

The loans already made are said to only be enough to keep Rangers afloat moving into December, so clearly they have to get extra finance from somewhere.

If MacLeod is of the right quality then Newcastle buying him with an instant loan back to Rangers would make sense.

However, many Newcastle fans would wonder about the size of any transfer fee and whether the amount of cash would match his talent.

The obvious speculation for many being that this would be an ideal way for Rangers to generate cash without Mike Ashley having to loan further funds in the short-term.

Souness and Murray were ahead of the game with their transfers while Souness was managing elsewhere, including Boumsong to us and a couple to Blackburn whose names escape me now. Souness was a generous buyer and dug deep for his old club and his pal, Murray.

Rangers are not riding high in the second tier of Scottish football. Considering the first tier is about League one level (barring Celtic who are mid table championship) I am not enthused by this possibility.

Wait, your logic is that good players can't come from bad sides?

I find fault with that rationale.

Newcastle United facing battle for striker target Andre-Pierre Gignac

Newcastle United have begun work on trying to recruit a striker in January – but they may face competition from Russia for striker target Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The Magpies have held a series of transfer meetings over recent weeks with Mike Ashley open to the idea of further spending – if the players provide value and fit the Magpies’ usual transfer blueprint.

Major investment is unlikely with the team performing well, but two first-team ready players could be recruited along with a couple of promising players for the future who are nearing the end of their contracts.

With Papiss Cisse set to leave for the African Cup of Nations in January, Newcastle know that a striker is a priority and have previously considered a move for Gignac, who has enjoyed a fantastic spell with Marseille this season.

His name was mentioned in the summer before Newcastle opted for the younger option of Emmanuel Rivière, but his representatives are understood to have indicated that he would be interested in a move to England. Arsenal and Spurs have also been linked but French reports claimed Dynamo Moscow are readying a £4million bid for the forward – who is yet to sign a new deal at the Stade Velodrome.

United have also been linked with a move for Germany striker Max Kruse, who leads the line for Borussia Monchengladbach and has 10 caps for the national team.

Kruse is not understood to be a priority target for the Magpies but for a fee of around £9million – and at 26 years of age – he is the sort of striker that Newcastle will be looking at in January.

Germany is a market that Newcastle want to expand into in the coming years along with Spain and Switzerland and United boosted their links in the Bundesliga in the summer, when they narrowly missed out on signing Pierre-Michel Lassoga.

Newcastle’s approach has always been to work closely with a select group of agents in their target markets, and outside the top clubs in Germany they believe there is a readiness to do business.

Thursday also represents the loan deadline and United may chose to loan out young defender Remie Streete – although Gael Bigirimana’s Newcastle career continues to be on hold with United unlikely to allow him to leave with injuries still ravaging the squad. Haris Vuckic may also be allowed to go out.

Port Vale would like to bring Streete back but there is also interest from Sheffield Wednesday. United still have question marks over Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor, although Paul Dummett has been inspired in the centre of defence alongside Mike Williamson, who returned on Saturday.

In a further sign of United’s recent fine form, Newcastle’s rapidly-improving midfielder Moussa Sissoko has been nominated for the PFA player of the month award.

The France international has been on excellent form recently but faces tough competition to win the gong for November. He is up against Sergio Aguero of Manchester City, Southampton’s England defender Nathaniel Clyne, Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard and Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Sissoko has emerged as Newcastle’s talisman in recent weeks and scored the winner in the narrow defeat of QPR on Saturday.

That was his first Premier League goal of the season but he notched an important goal against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup, and set up Ayoze Perez’s excellent strike against Liverpool.
