Rohit, Rahane, Kholi, Pant, Ashwin and Foakes have all showed its not impossible to bat on that surface.  Of course it's not easy but better application with the bat and better bowling by India has been the massive difference in this match.  Winning the toss and playing to the best of our ability (and Root having a blinder) is going to be key for the rest of the series.  A few batsmen getting a decent score tomorrow would be great for confidence too.

even if the england batsmen were all on their a game, you'd have to fancy india on that surface. they were always going to come back hard - particularly on a tailor-made pitch like that - and you can't blame them for preparing it. we've turned out plenty of green-topped seamers over the years when we have struggled during home series.

the day/night game is a massive opportunity. to be in with a chance of winning a series in india doesn't happen very often

foakes once again made a convincing case for selecction. he's by far the best with the gloves we have and averages more than buttler in FCC. they want buttler in the team because of his ability to turn a game but there might be a case for playing both of them, with buttler as a specialist batsman at 6

Regarding pitches, given home conditions are an advantage in themselves I would get rid of the toss and have visiting team have opening option every test.

Would encourage pitches being prepared to last 5 days.

Foakes should definitely play, how many runs does his fantastic glovework save (compared to others) I wonder.

Was stat on twitter earlier today on stumpings:

Foakes (6 tests) Made 5 Missed 1

Buttler (50 tests) Made 1 missed 5

Agree Foakes is the best man for the job. (Best anywhere for me) Especially when spin is king.

Kohli justs gets more dislikable the more I see of him. Amazing talent and rat-faced shithouse to go with it. Imagine waiting for a review after getting clean bowled.

Luckiest man in the world to be playing Test cricket.

 I wouldn’t go that far but he’s never a test no. 3. Instantly reviewing a plumb lbw just about sums him up though. He’s a white ball specialist now for me like

such a shame crawley couldn't go on a bit. he was timing it beautifully. looks a real prospect.

we will do very well to post anything north of 200 here. another wicket with sharp spin on day one. the indian spinners are already look like they're bowling on a day fIve pitch. have to question why we only picked one spinner. if we'd lost the toss, this would have been another short game. still could be.

yes. he's a 5/6 at best in tests. he did have a that one 18 month purple patch but there are plenty of players ahead of him now.

Exactly what a I mean. White ball player. Should be nowhere near the test team. LBW today....usually through the gate! Brought in to counter their spin. 1 ball.

no way is archer a number 8 like.

He’s an 11 based on his test record. He’s more talented than that but you’d say about 9 at the highest

Agreed, but neither Jimmy nor Leach are better than him.  As you say, quite talented, but just not doing it at the moment.  We can't carry so many bowlers who don't know which end of the bat is which, especially as we are generally one session away from a collapse.
