Dr Gloom 22295
Cricket will look completely different in 15-20 years time. It already does compared to the sport we grew up with, but it's only going to go further down the route of the premier league in terms of sanitisation. Money talks and the purists can protest all they like, unfortunately.Test match cricket only draws crowds in certain grounds in England and Australia. Not even in all the grounds. It's still the pinnacle of the game but most of the rest of the world don't really care anymore. They want cheerleaders and cheesy music played when someone hits a 6.The subcontinent and the shorter forms are the future of the game. The IOC have got a hard on for cricket because they want to tap the second biggest tv market in the world, which isn't really bothered by the olympics.Even though broadcasters still like test cricket because it takes up so much air time, empty grounds are being broadcast around the world, which isn't selling the sport. It's a sport run and watched by old men in blazers and they won't like the disruption to the traditional summer calendar but change is coming. The irony is it's never really going to catch on outside of markets connected with the former British empire. No way are the yanks or the Chinese ever going to suddenly latch on to the game - no matter how it's repackaged. David Kelly 1260
Going to see Durham play Leicestershire at gosforth today. Jennings, Cook and Richardson have all hit tons in the last week so I'm expecting single figures today.

David Kelly 1260
Bowling didn't look great this morning and there must be a fair chance that Woakes is going to miss a large portion of the tournament going off after two overs with a side strain. Was a curious decision to play Ball instead of Rashid and Roy looks woefully out of nick. Could need three chances for the next game.

David Kelly 1260
Ireland and Afghanistan given test status. Happy to hear that.
Alex 35717
Aye, same here. Incredible the way Afghanistan in particular have risen from nowhere. It's not long ago they were only affiliate members of the ICC (that's two levels below Test status with the likes of Malta, Greece and the Isle of Man). Think Ireland will do ok eventually too as they often seem to punch above their weight when it comes to sport in general.
David Kelly 1260
It'll be good to see if Rashid Kahn can have any sort of impact act test level. He looks amazing in T20's.
Alex 35717
I see Blowers is retiring from TMS at the end of the season. It won't be the same without him.
David Kelly 1260
I don't listen to much TMS as I usually have them on the telly but whenever I'm in the car listening to it, it's Blowers I want to be on. Aggers is good but Blowers just sounds like cricket.
Alex 35717
He was a good wicketkeeper batsman when he was at school and he was telling this story once on TMS (which in typical modest style had to be coaxed out of him) and he was had scored a century at Lord's playing for Eton. Afterwards when he was walking off someone said 'well played'. When he looked up it was Don Bradman

Dr Gloom 22295
Ballance recalled against SA He's got a good average in the CC this season but im not convinced he's ever going to be good enough at test level. He's had loads of chances too.
Dr Gloom 22295
Decent read in the guardian about a potentially exciting new captain but what looks like a familiar cautious approach to selection. It looks like Ballance is going to get another crack at number three https://amp.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2017/jul/01/joe-root-england-captain-south-africa-lords-first-test
