It's a shame about Panesar because he'd easily be the best bowler out of the current spin options.

Did he manage to play at all last season?  I remember hearing some talk of him making a comeback but I'm not sure if it ever materialised.

After he went back to Northants after Essex released him he played a couple of first class games last season (but did fuck all) and played a bit for the 2nd XI.

too busy pissing on bouncers to spend much time in the nets.

i don't think he'd get into the side now even if he did get his form back with the ball. there's a minimum standard at fielding and batting these days which he falls way below.

Today Australia are going to be bowled out for the second time this Test match by a side that's played 80% of the Test a fast-bowler short.

I'm really impressed with Rabada, too. He's top quality.

Australia, the first day aside, have been woeful.

I've watched a bit of this over the last few days while I've been kept awake with kidney stones.  SA have been excellent, especially when you consider Steyn's injury when Australia were just one man down in the first innings and AB's absence.  Rabada was brilliant throughout.  He looked really good against us last winter and as long as he stays fit, I can see him getting right up to the top of the bowling rankings in the future.

Australia didn't bat too badly in the second innings but were a joke once Warner was out in the first.  It looks like the they have some of the same problems that England do if they're going to have collapse's like that.

Great to see though.

The middle order is very brittle at the moment. Khawaja is a slow starter. Smith is not having the best of runs. Voges is completely out of form. Marsh is not good enough to bat at six in Test cricket.

I could see any or all of Voges, Mitchel Marsh and Siddle getting the axe if the next game is another loss.

I always wondered if Smith might come unstuck at some point. Obviously he's been in unreal form with the bat for a few years now but he looked ropey as on his first ashes tour.

I'm glad Ballance is finally out of the team.  Cook's saying he thinks he'll play again but we have to hope not.  I've not seen anything of Hameed so I'll be interested to see how he does.  Duckett in a four could really see the best of him also.

I might have an early night tonight and try to catch a bit of the match before graft tomorrow.
