I see it looks like Borthwick is going to follow Stoneman to Surrey from Durham.  Big blow losing those two but not altogether surprising.  At least Stokes has signed a new deal and Wood's return for England makes it more likely he will too (not that either of them play much).  The second team have won their league so hopefully there's some players who can step up.

Well that's Hales no longer playing test cricket at the very least.

Aye I thought that's a risky decision for him.  His position hasn't exactly been cemented in the test team so if someone comes in and does well then he could have fucked himself right up.  His high score against Pakistan and Morgan's return to form make the pair of them a bit more secure in the shorter formats.  It probably gives the likes of Billings and Ducket a chance to stake a claim.

Duckett, Ansari, Batty & Hameed in the Test squad for Bangladesh.  Think I would have given Roy and Jennings ago.  Roy's seems to have the temperament for international cricket so I think I would have given him the chance to come in for Vince.  And I don't know what a Durham batsman has to do to get a game.

Not sure there's much point in taking Batty at his age too.

Has Jennings actually qualified to play for England yet? Otherwise his exclusion seems strange. It's part guesswork based on stats though because we obviously don't get to see the County Championship. His stats are impossible to ignore though

Aye he's qualified now apparently.   I know this has been his first season where he's really exploded but seven centuries, two double centuries (including carrying his bat the other day) and over 1500 runs in division 1 at nearly 70 is unreal.  No one can touch what he done this season tbh.  Both Duckett and Hameed have scored less at a lower average and Duckett has been playing in division 2.  They both look like they could potentially be very good players given their age and what they've done but it seems incredibly harsh on Jennings.  I wonder what the chances are of losing him back to South Africa.

I listened to the Durham match the last few days and it was an outstanding game.  It swung back and forth so many times.  It really was a great advert for longer form cricket.  Stokes and Onions were absolutely superb yesterday afternoon.  Stokes went five and a half overs without conceding a run at one point which really upped the pressure and lead to the wickets.  Great for them to survive and I think they could still even finish forth if they beat Hampshire next week.  It'll be a hard season for them next year though without Stoneman and Borthwick.  They need to do some work to replace them two because without them they really only have Jennings scoring.

As far as I know there hasn't been any announcement about an England Lions tour for this winter but, if there is one, I'd expect Jennings to be involved.

Not sure if there is a tour as such but there is definitely some training in Dubai that Jennings has been called up for.  The two Coughlin's have been called up for training too.  The younger one for the young Lions and the older one for the fast bowing training.

exposes the dearth in spinning talent if digging up that old fossil is our best option.

Well it's not really news, is it? Otherwise Moeen would never have been thrust into the role. They're taking Ansari too though so that's four spinners. Can't see Batty playing in the tests unless there's an injury but it's a long tour and he's probably going along for his experience too.

I think there's a lad at Somerset that was talked about as a possible spin option also (I'm thinking Leech but that might be wrong).  There's also a couple of young ones like Mason Crane coming through.

I don't really see the point in Batty though other than if one of Ali or Rashid pick's up an injury, they want someone with experience coming in.  Seems strange that Dawson hasn't been included though since he seemed to be the next in line this summer.

Looks like the Middlesex - Yorkshire potential title decider is shaping up to be a canny match. Although I'd quite like to see it end in a draw and Somerset win their first County Championship.

Didn't realise they've never won it.  Thought they did when Botham was there.  I've heard the their pitch has been a disgrace this season and is the main reason they're up there.  I suppose Middlesex would deserve credit for winning it on  Lords pitch that is notoriously difficult to get a result on.

They had a lot of success with Botham, Richards and Garner but they never won the County Championship.

Aye I just looked it up.  Couple of Benson & Hedges wins.

They won the old Sunday League and the Gillette Cup too. Used to love watching the former on Sunday Grandstand. That was back in the day when test matches had a rest day on a Sunday (which seems ridiculous in hindsight) and test players would often play for their counties in the Sunday League and on that 'rest day'.
