Kitman 2207
Cairns had the good fortune that the Crown's case largely rested on the word of a proven liar, cheat and alcohol abuser. However there was enough mud there to ruin his reputation so he wasn't exonerated imo.
toonotl 3116
Wow. That's really surprising. I thought he'd go down for sure. Kitters is right though, it was Lou Vincent the prosecutors were relying upon wasn't it?
Kitman 2207
Yeah he was the key witness and the suggestion he was only testifying to save his own skin from prosecution was enough to sink the case. Cairns lawyer did a good job of making Vincent out to be a shifty shitbag. In fact Vincent's testimony was so unreliable that the judge warned the jury not to treat Vincent as a credible witness. However Cairns didn't come out of it well and I dont think he'll ever work in cricket again.
toonotl 3116
Yeah. It seems pretty clear that Cairns was guilty from the few articles I read. Sort of a NZ cricket version of the OJ Simpson situation. Without the murderising of people. Totally ruined his name for ever and a day now though, hasn't he? It's a shame in one sense, because he was a really good cricketer for NZ for so long. He's totally destroyed that now for the sake of a few thousand dollars, or whatever. Not too bright. Tooj 17
Just watched Death of a Gentleman, knew quite a lot of the stuff about how corrupt the ICC is and especially the power that India, Australia and England yield, however it's still disgusting and it's great to actually see this stuff out there and hopefully can be a start to seeing some kind of accountability for the ICC. Things such as not wanting to open cricket up to so-called lesser nations/not wanting it to be an Olympic sport/reducing the teams in the next World Cup need to change if the sport is going to evolve. For those that don't know about it have a read of the below and try and watch this as soon as you can. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/jul/28/the-spin-death-of-a-gentleman-icc-ecb

His explanation for paying for everything in cash was that it was a tax fiddle. The stupid bastard will now have 2 tax authorities after him for tax interest and penalties in undeclared earnings over many years. Good luck with that, old bean. Cheers.I watched Dexter all day yesterday and it was spot on. There's willow in the sports section of Pak India and quite often it's on one of the star or ten sports channels on there too. Quality is usually pretty good and its stable. Sky commentary but indian adverts. Stokes was fantastic yesterday probably the best batting performance I've ever seen (only been watching a few years mind). Thank fuck we've finally held on to something today! Dr Gloom 22187
That was a long old toil in the field. Catches win matches and we dropped a few. Could be a turning point in the series for SA

Dr Gloom 22187
He's hit the nail on the head, to give him his dues. one of those catches was straight down the fielder's throat. we need to get back to line and length bowling in the corridor of uncertainty, or maybe a few inswinging yorkers right in the blockhole. at the end of the day, it's 11 men against 11 men and you have to take 20 wickets to win the match. early wickets will be key and the first session of the day is massive. will cricket be the winner?
