looks like strauss is set for the ECB director role. wrong man, if you ask me. yes he took england to number 1 test side int he world, but he's just as conservative in his approach to the game as moores and cook. it'll be more of the type of cautious selections and cricket that has seen us go backwards in the past couple of years. i think vaughan would have been a much more progressive appointment but it sounds like he's out of the running.

Two years max before he is punted. Whitewash for the ashes.

So Strauss has let his personal relationship end KP's England career and has announced he won't be picked this summer due to a "trust issue".

What a load of nonsense. He's let a personal spat influence his decision-making, when Pietersen should either be in our out of the test side on merit. Brilliant job at scoring yet another own goal ECB. Should have given the job to Vaughan.

He was still playing cricket last time I checked. He wrote a book calling all of his team mates, was texting opposition players abusing his team mates, happily whistled himself off the pitch if he was bowled out. Plenty of players in all types of sports have been dropped from international squads due to a poor attitude.

i meant international career.

i couldn't give a shit whether strauss trusts him. if he betters the team, he should be considered for selection. and right now, he would get into the side.

he wouldn't have been ruled out of being selected if vauaghan had got the job. this is a personal thing between KP and strauss. strauss is a dick. enjoy the conservative selections and cautious cricket to come under his stewardship.

It's clearly a case of Cook, Anderson and Broad not wanting him in the side. Feel a bit sorry for him as he has been totally stitched up. That latest innings is the highest in the County Championship since Lara's record breaking knock against Durham. Strauss strikes me as a typical conservative toff, i.e. ideal in terms of the ECB want. I predict this summer is going to be as good as watching NUFC.

So the ECB have been forced to tell Kevin Peterson to fuck off again. Unbelievable decision. The ECB told him to play county cricket and not IPL. He does it. They told him he had to score runs in the county competition to prove himself. He scores 350 in an innings at close enough to a run a ball. They say they can't trust him to play for England. But offer him an advisory position within the ODI setup. Complete and utter madness.

This is some good old fashioned home-grown English cronyism. KP isn't part of the 'club', he never was, and now he's paying for it.

Meanwhile Australia will pick their side on merit and we'll wipe the floor with your lot. But lo, I do say dear boys, at least the English chaps will look mighty dapper in playing at the cricket, and I might add, having a gay old time at it too.

I have a passing interest, and an opinion.

Much like CT with politics / football / haute cuisine ;)

Anyway, I thought you said it was a bit shit, or words to that effect.

i'm arsed because the muppets that run the game have got it wrong, yet again.

opposition players will be loving the dog's dinner of a decision the ecb have made here - they'd much rather be bowling at johnny bairstow, gary ballance or moeen ali than peitersen.

siddle's comments are striking - it is like the aussies dropping warne. he used to ruffle feathers in the aussie cricket establishment but you'd never drop him because he was a genius. drop a player if he isn't good enough anymore, not because your new hire can't trust him ffs. what sort of bullshit is that?

watch the interview with strauss here and tell me the man is acting int he best interests of english cricket, like says he is. what a total cunt. the ecb offered him the carrot of returning to the side if he forgoes the chance to make more money playing in the IPL by returning to country cricket and making runs. he does exactly that, then strausss is appointed and completely contradicts what graves said earlier in the year by effectively ending KP's international career because of the personal spat between them.

listen to his interview with aggers man, he gives no reason to explain the lack of trust issue, so you have to assume it's to do with their personal relationship, which is a total nonsense given he's gone away and done exactly what graves asked him to do. what does he have to do to rehabilitate the trust that strauss speak of?

Aye, I heard it last night. It's funny how whenever Downton, Strauss or any of the players have been pressed on the specifics of what the problem are, not one of them (ignoring older issues, pre-'rehabilitation', as it were) has been able to give a straight answer.

it basically comes down to cook, broad and maybe anderson not wanting him in the side - as well as strauss, obviously.

the situation hasn't changed. graves should have kept his mouth shut if it was never on the cards. pietersen could arguably sue for loss of earnings - he could have made another fortune in the IPL.

Don't think I've ever said that. I've got 2 mates who play professionally and get along to the odd game. I'm at the ODI next month
