PaddockLad 17643
12.35pm BST 14th over: England 19-2 (Root 4 Pietersen 5)A curious move this. Clarke brings Nathan Lyon into the attack. Jeepers-creepers his second ball turned a lot, 12 inches and more from outside off-stump back in towards Root's midriff. Root eases the next ball away for a single, and Pietersen then sweeps another run away square. "A little over twenty years ago I took my sons, then aged 10 and 8, to their first Ashes test at Old Trafford and they witnessed THAT ball," says Brian James, in one of the most touching emails we've seen so far this summer. "Today they are there and decided not to ask me to join them. I hope they have a really sh!t day."

Dr Gloom 22142
see, this is what it's all about. on an absolute knife edge, test match cricket at its best: wickets tumbling, controversy over DRS...again, will it rain, won't it? will someone step up and play a match saving knock? will the weather prevent the aussies having time to bowl us out? Dr Gloom 22142
Fuck off man. i'm happy we retained the ashes but it would have been way more satisfying to have done it with two batsmen still at the crease having dug it out in difficult decisions instead of celebrating from the balcony in the drizzle. Dr Gloom 22142
i'd like to see onions have a bowl on his home ground. he's been unlucky not to win more caps really. he's always looked impressive bowling in tests, averages under 30 iirc
Dr Gloom 22142
i was going to say onions to come in for bresnnan but he could he could come in for bairstow and try going back to 5 bowlers. prior is a good enough number 6. bresnan arguably could do a job at 7. doubt they'd do it though. selectors are quite conservative and seem to love the long batting line up.
