Newcastle United are to install a giant screen at St. James' Park.

The 60-metre LED screen, manufactured by sports technology specialists ADI, will be situated on the glass panelling in the North-East corner of the stadium in the Leazes End, and will be visible to more than 40,000 spectators on matchdays.

At 60 metres, it will be the joint-biggest screen in the Barclays Premier League and will be up and running for United's home fixture with Leicester City on Saturday, 18th October.

The new screen will utilise ADI's Virtuality 10mm LED technology and will broadcast exclusive Club content, live match action, instant replays, statistics, news and much more, to deliver an engaging fan experience.

The new digital platform also provides the Club's commercial partners with a new means of communication with fans inside the stadium - complementing the Magpies' existing matchday coverage.

Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley said: "We have wanted such a facility for a long time now and we are delighted to have joined forces with ADI to install this state-of-the-art giant screen within St. James' Park.

"It will significantly improve the matchday experience for supporters and greatly enhance the interactivity and information we can provide to them at the stadium before, during and after the game.

"The North-East corner on the stadium was the optimum location where the positioning of such a large screen was structurally possible, while at the same time providing a sight line for the majority of supporters."

ADI's commercial manager for sport, Sharon Smith, added: "We're incredibly excited to be working with Newcastle United to deliver a platform that not only creates incredible fan engagement opportunity but also drives commercial revenue.

"With more than 30 LED displays now installed at sports venues across the UK, we are delighted to be serving St. James' Park and we look forward to working with the Club to add value to the matchday experience."

This is cracking news for proper fat cunts mind, they can use that app to get their pies delivered to their seat and now they don't have to get up and walk to the concourse tv's to see replays at half time. They can also view 60 meter advertisements for their upcoming slazenger "athletic" apparel purchases that they can wear in their taxi.

What I can't understand, both from a commercial POV (if they are going to use to further whore the SportsDirect brand) or from the POV of the 12,000 supporters who can't see it, is why they haven't considered sticking one at the south end of the Milburn...

Or will that be phase 2?

That will be phase 2 of 6. The final phase will be SD coloured grass on the pitch apparently.

I think it's great news actually and always think they look good in other grounds when I've seen them on TV.

Fancy you going against the grain.......

Where they're putting it will give it more exposure for the TV cameras so the viewers have no chance of missing the massive Sports Direct adverts. This is in no way being done with the aim of enhancing the match going experience.

I just don't think every development needs to be viewed through Shit tinted glasses.

I think most fans would enjoy seeing instant replays.

Aye, I bet they were all crying in their pints they couldn't instantly see Zaha stick it in the Gallowgate, deep into the 95th minute......

I think the only ground I've been to that suits one is Wembley - possibly San Siro but both were executed with a bit of class.

The screens at Bolton, Upton Park, Goodison Park & White Hart Lane etc all look fucking shit & I'd expect the same of the Sports Direct screen. It might help those up in the gods but it's not my cup of tea.
