Christmas Tree 4725
It's obviously quiet and people have nowt better to argue about. In those days, we never beat Man U and playing them at home was a massive event. Nobody expected to win that game, never mind knocking 5 past them. When we did it WAS a massive result and was very special. Today Leicester did not expect to win or knock 5 past them. They will consider this a massive result and celebrate accordingly. Fannys! Tom 14011
Chelsea 0-1 up at Man City. I imagine it's a magical day for their fans - probably the equivalent of when we beat Man City 0-1 away in October 1912.
Tom 14011
1-1! Lampard of all people. That'll leave those Chelsea fans feeling like our fans did when we drew 1-1 away to Man City in November 1966!
Howmanheyman 33223
So to re-cap, CT says we hadn't beat Man U for a decade when we beat them 5-0, although in reality we'd beaten them three times in that period despite being in a different division for four of those years. 1986-87, won 2-1. 1987-88, won 1-0. 1994-95, won 2-0. Apart from that and also saying everyone expected a defeat, he's spot on. (I managed to trudge along to all of those games and ended up in the RVI after the 2-1 win where Goddard got the winner as I knacked my leg when I got home, I was young and naive and said to my Dad that some Man U fans must have had an accident too as there was a few battered and bloodied Mancs in the accident and emergency dept the same time as us). Whereas in fact they'd taken a beating much like Everton have at the hands of Crystal Palace today. The parallels are uncanny.
Howmanheyman 33223
They'll be dancing in the streets of Croydon tonight just like we did when we beat Man U 5-0. It's spooky, really.
Tom 14011
That's rubbish Meenzer. How old were you when Everton were beaten by Crystal Palace and for context - how long were your shorts?

Howmanheyman 33223
It was a league cup game when clubs didn't play B teams. Full house, great atmosphere and two teams wanting to win. The two other games I mentioned didn't feature B teams either.

acrossthepond 877
Back at the bottom after Palace's win. The "two games to save his job" have come and passed and we're propping up the Premier League....
Howmanheyman 33223
Was that the game when Gillespie looked absolutely class? Can't remember is the answer. Actually think the game Gillespie shone was the 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford. Think that's where KK decided to get him.
Meenzer 15531
Was that the game when Gillespie looked absolutely class? He put us to the sword in the league around then too, basically sealed the deal on the subsequent switch as part of the Cole deal, I imagine

Fuck off please Alan, I know you managed a tremendous home draw to the mighty Hull Tigers but we're fucking bottom.
