Not that long ago Carroll was a young criminal and him and Ranger were toe to toe "but the angry townsfolk are quick to forget that" .

"Ferguson, like first-team outcasts Hatem Ben Arfa and Sylvain Marveaux, has been training with Newcastles development squad this week."

Please tell me that Obertan isn't training with the first team?

Peter Lovenkrands:

Shane Ferguson is still a great talent.

He showed that this week with good performances for Northern Ireland - not least his part in the respectable 2-0 win in Athens against Greece.

Its hard to say hes a young talent anymore because hes getting older now but he still has so much potential and hes a great wee player.

I like him as a left-back because defensively he can be like a rash around you, hes quick and while hes not the biggest player he is good at using his body well.

Hes also got great feet so when he breaks forward from a left-back position it surprises a lot of teams.

That is because suddenly the opposing full-back is up against a winger because thats where he started.

A right-back against a left-back is one thing but when he pushes up its a right-back against a good left winger.

Its better for him to come forward like that because he gets great crosses into the box - something Newcastle need at the moment.

I just felt sorry for him at Birmingham because he didnt get the chance and it was shame for him because he didnt show what he could really do.

Im glad hes done well for Northern Ireland because it bodes well for him.

If he is doing that at international level in the Euro qualifiers he can do it in the Premier League too.

Its as simple as that and its not going well for Pardew down the left, so why not give him the chance?

That's being generous seeing that he couldn't get a game in the Championship last season.

Struggled to get on their bench. Northern Ireland have players in their team from League 1 so him Shane getting a game for them in no way indicates he's of premier league level.

I'm a generous guy. He'll be a squad player for an upper League one / relegation threatened championship side one day.
