Plans to rename the ground shirts sponsored by Sondico a subsidiary of Sports Direct. Looks like instead of eating all the pies he's getting his fingers in them first.

Think the Mag have suggested it would be some sort of ownership, but it wouldn't...

The report says that a five year agreement is proposed which would see Sports Direct take over the running of the club shop, Sondico (an Ashley brand – check out the SJP advertising at the next match) would be the shirt sponsor and the stadium is to be given the Sports Direct branding.

I always thought he bought Newcastle rather than throw away £100m+ on a 5 year deal with any other bigger Premier League club.

Pretty sure there was an early John Hall interview in the Sunday Sun just after he sold it to Ashley where he suggests the motive for the buy was to use as a vehicle for his sports clothing company and that seems the most likely to me. Newcastle United Football Club are now just sportsdirect's advertising tool.
