The OFFICIAL Transfer Rumours Thread

I still think he was the pick of the middle 4 in the first half. I've said for months we should be after Hughes from Derby. Rafa seems insistent on playing 2 defensive midfielders and leaving the 3 behind the striker to create. It doesn't work though, we'd be better off going 442

Isn't he an injury concern?

Anyway I'd expect us to play Diame alongside Hayden/Anita/Colback when Mitrovic comes back.

There isnt a lot of goals in this team if he plays Diame behind a striker..

As mentioned I think he should go 4-4-2. Diame in the middle with a holding midfielder and Aarons and Ritchie on the wings. Perez/Gayle can drop back into number 10 if we are under pressure - assuming Mitro will lead the line.

Aye, that's what I meant, Diame central, Perez/Gayle playing off Mitrovic with 2 of Ritchie, Aarons and the other of Gayle and Perez playing the wide positions.

I think Diame was played further forward on Saturday to try and give us a bit more physical presence up top in Mitro's absense. I don't think it's something Rafa will be looking to continue with once we have a target up front.

I also don't think Shelvey did too bad on Saturday. I just think the lack of balance in the team gave him limited passing opportunities.

Aye, we're desperate for someone who doesn't start many games and can't score

I could have sworn he scored 2-3, but was a useful big lump.

He was poor in the Chmapionship. Looked decent on occasion the following season in the top flight

ah, that's right, got a hat trick against West Ham, didn't he?

Need a Marlon Harewood.

not a bad shout actually

it's back basics in the championship. you need a big lump who can get on the end of the occasional long hoof and hold it up. agree that the riviere shout isn't a bad one. he coudl be a decent understudy to mitrovic in that role.

Aye a player like him would work well imo, an experienced forward who has plenty of goals to his name. We've got a side that has low confidence so a bit of experience in front of goal would help out, all we have is a 19 year old, a 21 year old, a 24 year old and a 26 year old who hasn't played much (as well as another one who has probably forgotten what a footy pitch looks like.

I genuinely think SDJ could do a job for us in the Championship if he could just stop getting knacked. He's never really had a chance to show it, but he must be a decent player at the heart of it. I'd certainly try him ahead of Shelvey if he was fit.

Crouch's name is brought up all the time, whether it be lazy journalism or not, he'd fit the bill nicely down here, I reckon. If not for goal return, at least in presence and experience on the pitch.

Without a doubt

Agree with you there. We're crying out for a bit of creativity in the middle.

Iirc, last time we were in the championship we didn't sign anyone of note with skill, flair and creativity.  Who left from the Premiership squad? Bassong, Damian Duff, Obafemi Martens?  Pffft...who cares

We were left with Jose Enrique and Jonas Gutierrez on the left side toying with the opposition all season.

We had Simpson and Routledge on the right that other teams could not match their speed.  Ryan Taylor, over the wall.

We had Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan joining from midfield with Andy Carrol, who had a break out season, and Leon Best and Peter Lovenkrands.

A confident Colocinni and Tin Krul.

I look at that team and this team and the first thing that pops out from that team to this, is how strong the left wing was for the Championship, and the midfield.  That was a pretty darn strong team.
