Some 1.2million British fathers are unsure if their child is really theirs, a survey suggests – equal to 8 per cent of all fathers.

And 460,000 mothers, or 3 per cent, are not certain who the father of their child is.

Men in the North-East were most uncertain, with 16 per cent having doubts.

Among mothers, those in the North-West were the most unsure at 6 per cent.

A total of 5,266 parents were surveyed by YouGov for website dnatestingchoice.com.

The DNA testing company which carried out the statistics said their business was becoming increasingly popular, with more parents than ever now demanding a DNA test.

Editor Craig Macpherson said: ‘Paternity testing was a mainstay of TV shows such as Jeremy Kyle – but we not find more parents turning to it to end years of uncertainty.’

After Geordies, fathers in Belfast were the most uncertain with 12 per cent being unsure, followed by fathers living in London on 10 per cent.

However, in Yorkshire and Scotland, men were far less likely to question if they were the biological parent of their children - with just three per cent admitting to having doubts.

Mothers in the North West of England were the most uncertain of their child’s biological father, at six per cent, with the lowest uncertainty in Scotland at 0.26 per cent.

Mothers who were not married were nearly three times more likely to be unsure than the average female.

Anyone here got any doubts? About their kids or their dad? Statistically a few must.

:D
