Anorthernsoul 1221
He is a short arse as well. Might struggle with the physicality of the PL as well. That can also be a plus point, lower centre of gravity which gives him better balance which in turn allows him to glide past players like they aren't there. Happy Face 29
Pardew made a conscious change from hitting long balls from the back. We still don't play it into the box though.
Holden McGroin 6783
We don't play hoof-ball under Pardew. That is a complete fallacy. I've seen it with own eyes. He has specifically played Shola up front to miss out the midfield. Especially after Cabaye left and we didn't have any creativity.

I think it's called confirmation bias.

I think it's called confirmation bias. They only get counted as a long ball when they're accurate, and I can think of many a time when we've just pumped it long to nobody at all. False. We attempt 56 long balls per game. 12% are effective. As opposed to Arsenal who attempt 55 long passes per game with 9% succession rate. Liverpool who attempt 56 with 10% succession rate. Man City 55 completing 9%.... http://www.whoscored.com/Teams/23/Statistics/England-Newcastle-United You think we have 56 successful long balls per game? LOL. ClubSpinDoctor 0
No I didn't say successful. I said accurate. So pumping it upfield to nobody doesn't count. Check the glossary on that site.

Long Ball- An attempted/accurate pass of 25 yards or more I assume the margin is pretty wide for what is considered "accurate". And how many terrible long balls do you think we play? Even if you think we play significantly more "non accurate" long balls than other teams (but I'm guessing you don't watch every other team enough times and close enough to estimate how many non accurate long balls they play), we're still going to be near the bottom of the list. It's no coincidence that Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City, three teams known for playing on the ground have played the least "accurate" long balls. But then we're the anomaly? Like I said, it's just confirmation bias.

ClubSpinDoctor 0
Simply looking at long ball statistics doesn't tell the true story either btw, as the stat isn't exclusively for defenders pumping the ball up to forwards. The limited range of passing in our midfield (after Cabaye left, which I mentioned in the summers transfers thread) will have contributed to keeping our long ball statistic down, whereas other teams probably have more capable long passers in other areas of the pitch. The stat doesn't tell you, for example, whether 80% of our long balls were Mike Williamson pumping the ball up field from the back and whether 50% of Liverpool's were Joe Allen spraying balls about from the centre of the park. Howay 12496
It's also a bit ropey using those stats in comparison with Arsenal, yes they attempt a similar amount of long passes but they also have a significantly higher amount of passes per game then us. We sit at around 14% of our passes being long ball compared with Arsenals 10%, from what it looks like we're about middle of the road and play a mix. I feel CSD is right about the difference in long ball as a lot of ours do come from Williamson which bypass the midfield and often fail which is frustrating and stands out more, but I think when the ball is played to midfield we tend to keep it on the deck more. ClubSpinDoctor 0
Ironic, because I'm actually trying to stop everyone else being like CT. What's cringeworthy is how fickle people are. Our fanbase has a reputation for it as well.
Kid Dynamite 7170
Not in the slightest. Where has anyone said we don't need a new striker and CB? Where has anyone said all is forgiven with Ashley? What's been said is we have signed some exciting players and we are excited to see them. The two things are mutually exclusive. Give it a rest telling everyone how wrong and fickle they are, it's boring now
